DNC to Restore Voter Database to Sanders Campaign

As ridiculous as this probably sounds to most of you, I'll be voting for either Sanders or Trump. They are the only 2 candidates from either party who are not financially dependent on special interests. And to me that is huge. In fact, I think it is everything at this point. It should be noted that I am a pretty strong democrat. To the extent, I even have political action committee money automatically deducted from my paycheck to the democratic party.

Sanders comes closest to sharing my values. But if that isn't going to happen then Trump is getting my vote.

That is another problem for Hillary Clinton. People don't like her. I don't mean the insane obsessive hatred you see on the right, I am not talking about that. I mean she doesn't connect with people. When she tries to do her woman of the people thing, like in 2008 when she went to W.Va. and drank scotch in a bar with who the media had deemed "low information voters," she came off as forced and not natural to the situation. Bill had that whole "I feel your pain" thing going for him. Hillary comes off more like "I am having a pain," or "I am a pain."

...

A little Humility can go a long way, and she didn't appear to have any.

That really is one of Hillary's biggest problems. At best she can be described as so cold that if you poured boiling water down her throat she'd piss ice cubes. Every time she does try to show emotion, it looks forced and disingenuous. If you watch carefully you can see her pause a moment as if trying to figure out what is the emotional response that is called for.

Bill really was able to lay on the charm, lay it on thick, make it look like he really cared. I doubt that either one of them actually gave a damn but Bill was excellent at looking like he did.

It's pragmatism. Clinton is a name brand.

Pragmatism is voting for the person you think supports your positions. That is the only pragmatic way to get them enacted.

What you're talking about is not giving a shit beyond wanting your side to win. And that is not pragmatic at all.

Not really. If candidate A gives you one or two things that are important to you and candidate B gives you zero and takes away 3 or 4 things you care about, you hold your nose and choose A.

If candidate A only gives you a lukewarm version of what you want and a lukewarm version of what you don't want but B gives you a rain of hellfire and brimstone, you vote for A.

It's called choosing the lesser of two evils. Also called growing up.

You're very naive if you think Trump isn't beholden to special interests, mainly his own self interest. I sincerely believe that he is uninterested in actually being president and in any and all cases is interested only in what best serves his own interests. He'd simply be an American version of Putin. Only richer and stupider, with a worse head of hair and a soft belly.

We are talking about Clinton vs Sanders, right?

In what world is Hillary a better evil? She has an incredible amount of negative baggage and could easily be a worse candidate in the general election.

Growing up is not voting for Hillary because she has name recognition.

Sorry: Sanders is far better than Clinton.

Clinton is far better than any republican currently running for president.

I don't consider Sanders all that of a long shot. Around this time 8 years ago, a certain Black Senator no one knew was also as much behind Hillary as Bernie is now.

This is true.

And I don't consider Sanders that much a long shot either.

I really hope that he gets the nomination. It will depend on whether or not younger folks get out to vote. Most of the under 35 set I know are Sanders fans. Everyone I know who is a Hillary supporter is because they simply believe she's the foregone conclusion/can beat the Republicans and a few because they are just so ready for a woman president.

Same here

But here's the thing, polls after poll shows that Clinton OR Sander would beat any of the republicans currently running.

Ya, the possibility of the GOP electing the next President isn't an issue. The only real concern would be if Sanders gets a lead and then Clinton goes to one of his campaign events, bashes him over the head and then just straight-up eats him in the middle of the stage which, I think we can all agree, is the most likely outcome we'll see if Sanders pulls ahead of her.

She'd still beat the GOP candidate, but then you'd have a President who ate a guy and, as we remember from the first Bush administration, that just makes for awkward state dinners.

If you actually elect Sanders as your president, I think it could go a long way towards salvaging the image of the United States of America. As a Canadian, I would for the first time in my life actually envy you for your political situation.

Really, only if the people get up off their ass and support him. If they elect Bernie and keep imprinting their ass on the couch, Bernie will be in much the same situation that Obama is in now.

The hilarious part is going to be the far right reaction to a Bernie presidency. I am in the habit of sadistically listening & reading the far right to monitor their activities. I do this not because I enjoy punishment, but because it is really the driving force behind the Republican party. Trump is the monster they created which will not die. He is the result of all the racism, hate, and xenophobia crystallized into human form. Anyway, the shit they spew about Obama is incredible. These people truly, actually believe that he is a Muslim Kenyan, letting in immigrants to become his brown shirts in order to enforce a new world order. They actually believe that he wakes up for the day with one mission: to destroy the United States of America. The thing is Obama is SO right moderate of center. Bernie will make their fucking heads explode! But he's WHITE! They will hate him of course, but they won't know what to do. Personally, I think what we'll see is a shift from the more gutter trash racist ideology to redneck gotta keep my guns cuz the Government is Nazi's type of ideology. Things will simply be more purely politically motivated instead of racially so. There will be exceptions as Sanders enacts his relief measures that Black Lives Matter supports, and makes changes to our justice system.

In closing, and I hate to say this, but I think it's true. If Sanders gets at least some of what he wants with regards to prison privatization, drug laws, law enforcement reform, and so on, he will have done more for people of color than Obama. Please don't misunderstand me. Obama has done a lot of good, and symbolically, to see him as president has made me proud. It's a good milestone for the U.S. Yet, I can't help but feel that Obama shouldn't have been afraid to push back against institutional racism much harder than he has. I know this congress does nothing but block everything the administration is trying to do. Yet, we should have seen more from him in this area. Perhaps he even has good reasons for his inaction, but if that's the case I'd like to know what it is. Appointing the justice department to Internal Affairs investigations after another unarmed black man is shot isn't doing much to help the cause. Perhaps i'm missing something important, but really, that's all I see him doing.

You are correct.

As for how will they hate Bernie? "Well you know he's a Jew. <wink wink>."

But your assessment of Obama is a good one. He could have done more to dismantle the system of white supremacy. And more than that, he could have spoken out more about the both the artificial and real dividing line in this nation. I believe somewhere in the back of his mind he thought he could get republicans to like him. And he really wanted to be liked.

He has since gotten over that for the most part.

The far right has long hated Hilary as bad as they have hated Obama. The demonization in the past has been just so bizarre I am surprised that so far it has not been as viruliant so far in this election cycle.

Well, they were trying to start that up back in the summer with all that email hooey and all that and likely had plans for a year and a half long constant campaign of it. Since then, Trump's pretty much sucked the wind out of everything else that they're doing and derailed every plan that they had. It's tough to keep up a campaign against Clinton when they're busy trying to parse out how it is that while they don't agree that all Mexicans are rapists, they're also not denying that they're all rapists.

Clinton's been a secondary target for them while they try and figure out that guy and they haven't managed to figure out that guy yet.

No, no no. They hate Hillary, this is true (they hated Bill too with a passion when he was in office) but to them she's just a high profile, dishonest liberal woman that hates America and will weaken it through her silly policies. Obama has a hate against him from these people hotter than that of a thousand suns, and then some.

Oh that's right, sheesh, how did I forget that. Damn, that's gonna drive the conspiracy arm of the party right over the fucking edge.

Yes, Obama really is a uniting kind of person. You can read it in his speeches as he asks everyone for help to work together to solve problems. I think he was used to being able to do that, because you know, he understands the art of compromise and this-for-that. I think he really thought for a long time that the right would come around, at least some, and he could get more done. I think he was caught as flat footed as the rest of the nation when the right's only response to ANYTHING was "no". You're right in that he finally seems to catch on. I wish he had that "I don't give a fuck" attitude sooner.

But there's one way he's drastically weakened the right in my opinion. By being who he is. No major scandals in his administration, he's happy, Michelle is happy, and their kids are doing great. They are really a credit to the nation. They all look sincerely happy, without a trace of ego. It drives the right fucking crazy. When you can enrage your enemies by living your life, you're doing it right. :)

Most recent poll shows that Bernie Sanders whomps Trumps ass by double digits, by far more than Clinton wins against Trump.

I don't see Bernie Sanders as all that much of a long-shot either.

As I've said repeatedly, I will be voting for him in the primaries because he most closely (as in almost exactly) matches my views, but if he doesn't win the primary, I will vote for Clinton. This country simply has to elect one or the other because the alternatives of Trump or Cruz (or Carson or Fiorina or Rubio or whoever else the fuck is still running on the republican side) is unacceptable.
