To scan for ancient artifacts.

Brazil Amazon: Drone to scan for ancient Amazonia

Scientists are to scan the Amazon forest in Brazil to look for evidence of occupation by ancient civilisations.

A drone will be sent up with a laser instrument to peer through the canopy for earthworks that were constructed thousands of years ago.

The UK-led project is trying to determine how big these communities were, and to what degree they altered the landscape.

Whenever I see the word Amazon these days, I always first think of the company not the forest. That makes little beave sad.

I wonder how long its going to be before Christians use drones to drop bibles onto undiscovered Amazon tribes.

Maybe you should send a suggestion to the Gideons.

Whenever I see the word Amazon these days, I always first think of the company not the forest. That makes little beave sad.

I also first thought of Amazon the company, especially since that Amazon has been pushing for drone use to drop off their packages and are upset about the new rules which forbid that type of use.

I blame the abuse of English in headlines.

"Drone to scan Amazon" would, in non-headline English, refer to the company; To refer to the well known stand of trees, one would say "Drone to scan the Amazon".

For people whose job is to produce headlines for their articles, sub-editors seem remarkably disinclined to the use of articles in their headlines.
