[Edited] Video of Dallas Police Killing Mentally Ill Man

It's hard to see what happened there but from what we can see it's pretty obvious he came at them. While we don't see what he was doing while he came at them he had the screwdriver in hand and a screwdriver certainly can be used to stab.

And I've pointed out repeatedly that tasers aren't used in situations like this. Pointing out the tasers on their hips is showing you don't understand the situation.

Loren is right, they had no other choice than to shoot him. He might have been a fire breather or used his laser beam eyes.

Also body armor cannot stop a screwdriver or a rock.

You are right about the latter part although I don't think you meant to be--normal police body armor stops bullets only. It does nothing about a rock (which is blunt anyway) and does little against being stabbed. Sure, they could make better armor--but it would be heavier, more restricting and much hotter. Cops wouldn't get stabbed--but would be keeling over with heatstroke.

Nothing can stop a screwdriver or rock. Especially heat-seeking ones that immobilize their victims from afar.

So a bullet proof vest is virtually useless against a screw driver?

Forget the armor, just get them more bullets!

I think cops should be shooting people that assault them more often than they do... regardless of how 'easy' absent civilians think it might have been to take one action or another instead of shooting to kill.

Attack a cop for any reason, with or without any weapon of any kind, and you get shot. That should be the law. Physically attack a cop and you die.

Doesn't this give cops freedom to kill anyone at any time for any reason, provided there are no witnesses or security cameras? Doesn't it also give them the power to do whatever they please in general, knowing they can just mow down whoever gets in their way?

Of course it does. But remember, the police are perfect and are never expected by the promoters of such idiocy to make any type of error of judgment when dealing with them.

How do cops have more freedom in this scenario than any other person?

Doesn't it also give them the power to do whatever they please in general, knowing they can just mow down whoever gets in their way?

They can already do that if they are 'dirty' cops.

What I propose.. a zero tolerance attitude with this issue.. would certainly have an impact.

'An impact' is being too conservative with your choice of words.

Regular citizens committing murder would risk intense forensic investigation of their crime scene leading to their being identified and held accountable. You propose no accountability for police, an unreasonable position for a civilized society.

What a horrific society you want to live in.

I noticed Malintent has his finger (sic) crossed.

As we have pointed out repeatedly you have no idea about what you are talking about.
