Where do you stand on:
  • Economic: Equality vs. Markets
  • Diplomacy: Nation vs. World
  • Civil: Liberty vs. Authority
  • Social: Tradition vs. Progress

Me:
Economic Axis: Social -- 72.0% -- 28.0%
Diplomatic Axis: Peaceful -- 31.9% -- 68.1%
Civil Axis: Libertarian -- 75.4% -- 24.6%
Societal Axis: Very Progressive -- 16.3% -- 83.7%
Closest Match: Libertarian Socialism

Much like The Political Compass but with four dimensions instead of two.

I took that one again, and I found
Economic Left/Right: -4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44

Back in 2007, I got
Economic Left/Right: -5.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.97

So the two roughly agree.

Pigeonhole

1: a hole or small recess for pigeons to nest

2: a small open compartment (as in a desk or cabinet) for keeping letters or documents

3: a neat category which usually fails to reflect actual complexities

untermensche, any particular flaws? Or are you objecting to *any* simple classifications?

I am saying that people who really don't have similar outlooks can fall into these general categories.

You can have people who strongly support capitalism and people who strongly oppose it in the same category.

As long as they have somewhat similar views on the relationship between the government and the economy.

Don't you think a test like this is very, very limited to a particular time and place? For instance, I am extremely conservative, but I come from a community in which the CP closely challenged the Labour Party. The State was foreign, and I deeply distrust it, preferring total democratic control by working people, which will render it unnecessary. When I was young, 'progress' meant the elimination of our language and culture, and now it means the opposite. I believe in our absolute freedom to do what we choose as long as we don't hurt others, but on a personal level I believe I can hardly move without doing so. I believe that if we must have any government, it should be a world one, but I, as I say, loathe government. I wouldn't know how to start, except totally to end capitalism and its ludicrous markets, which are set fair to destroy us all.

Oh look it's every "Which character from show X are you?!" facebook quiz in a new dress.

Being a true child of the 90s, I object to any effort to categorize me or my beliefs in accordance with a neat set of labels.

Didn't know this was possible and not an oxymoron of some sort, but I'm apparently a Libertarian Communist.

Social Liberalism

Sounds about right.

Oh come on, have some fun. We know these things are pretty flawed.

Sure.

But it's such a nice word. It's good to see it once in a while.

Me according to them:
Economic Axis: Centrist 57.3% -- 42.7%
Diplomatic Axis: Peaceful 35.1% -- 64.9%
Civil Axis: Liberal 70.4% -- 29.6%
Societal Axis: Very Progressive 22.4% -- 77.6%
Closest Match: Social Liberalism

Economic Left/Right: -1.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.77

Didn't know this was possible and not an oxymoron of some sort, but I'm apparently a Libertarian Communist.

It is an oxymoron in the American tradition, but Libertarianism was traditionally a left-wing ideology in Europe before it was co-opted by right-wing fanatics in the USA. Even today, a lot of "Libertarians" in the US are thinly-veiled Randriods - industrialists/capitalists are heros, greed is good, etc.

Which is why I am not at all surprised that this little quiz pegged me as a "Libertarian Socialism". I was a "Libertarian" back when the word in the U.S. was still left-leaning; as opposed to Republican-Lite as it is now.
