Endless Forms Most Beautiful

The corn seems implausible, and the seadragon looks fake, like it's not from the same picture as the background.

Those are the only two pictures I can see without going to another page, and I'm calling 100% of them fake.

I forget the name, there was a movie 60s-70s? on nature from a bug's eye view. I think the theme was despite our human sense of superiority, bugs rule the world.

At that scale far scarier than any movie. Kill or be earen alive.

BTE a great show on Nat Geo, Animal Fight Night. Combat from insects to giraffes. You haven't seen anything until you have seen giraffe kung fu.

YUP! Corn can come in almost any of the colors in that picture.. .very surprising, but real. HOWEVER, that particular picture must have been enhanced, as no single ear of corn has quite that many variations, nor are the variations so pronounced... each kernel is a perfect solid color in the picture, which is not the case in nature... the kernels tend to be more cloudy with multiple colors, not "racing car perfect" paint.

That dragon does not exist. Dragons are make believe.

I wasn't doubting the existence of the leafy sea dragon. It's just that, in that picture, it looks cropped and pasted against that background.

I'm guessing now that the thing is just really well lit, and the background less so, and the background is fuzzy because of distance and water.

The strain is called 'Glass Gem' corn, and that article tells how it was produced.

Interesting. That strain was highly selected. I move to reject the nomination on the grounds of artificial manipulation.... j/k :)

Created with DNAshop, maybe. :D

Today, using photoshop (or, more likely Blender, Maya, 3DMax, etc..) you can create a physical object by 3D printing your creation.

How long until DNAShop is a thing?... 3D Print the DNA and inject into the incubator chamber. Voila! Instant zombie apocalypse.

I'm certain it will be a combined effort on the part of Amazon and Google. That way we get the Skynet-Powered Zombie Apocalypse...

There are already machines that can build a strand of DNA with any base pair sequence you specify.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_gene_synthesis

And there is already an organism that has been made in this way.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycoplasma_laboratorium

It cost about $40million to make; But that was eight years ago. I am sure it's rapidly getting cheaper.

Very cool... so, it only costs $40M to design and build the virus that renders extinct all mammalian life on Earth? How much more to distribute it globally? And.. anyone interested in contributing to my kickstarter?

I imagine that a virus would be somewhat cheaper. They are much simpler than bacteria.
