Exclusive: McCarthy gives Tucker Carlson access to trove of Jan. 6 riot tape

Oh, wait.
I'm waiting.
Why haven't the alphabet soup of mainstream media, and - more important - THE PUBLIC - been given access to the material that the corrupt and compromised Speaker gave to the propaganda channel?
Oh, wait - he is the corrupt and compromised Speaker.
Never mind.
Why is it that only the right-leaning media and pundits have been demanding full release of the videos these last couple years? Why is the establishment media so disinterested in evidence of the InSURecTIoN. Nothing precluded Pelosi from letting the media look at it. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The only reason I can think why access might be denied if there tapes are still part of an ongoing criminal investigation which is what was occurring while Pelosi was Speaker of the House. Otherwise, I think anyone who asks for access should have them.

I would guess that the disinterested observers believe there is nothing new on those tapes. After all, there is lots of footage available of the riot.

I would guess that the rightwing media and pundits want access to footage for partisan reasons.
Good point--evidence in ongoing investigations is normally not released.

At this point they should be released to all the media.

Reminds of the dumbass arguments about 9/11 and video tapes around the Pentagon. Therefore, it was a missile / inside job.

Is that legal? I suppose he can share the docs, but if he shares with one, does he need to give to those that ask?
Why were they not previously released?

Great question. I'd also like to ask why only to Tucker Carlson? ;)
And why isn't the media establishment demanding similar access? Weird.

I was thinking more on the lines of anyone who asked for it. Ya know, like house republicans. But instead its specifically given to Tucker Carlson? :ROFLMAO: The move is so transparent.

Normally, when the federal government doesn't release some kind of video or whatever really, conservatives are the first to support a reason of national security. Likewise, whenever there is a commission of a crime and say, police, for example, don't release video, conservatives are okay with it because there is an on-going investigation. Conservatives are okay with these explanations so often that it is mind-boggling that they wouldn't be able to think through these two reasons for themselves. Does it mean they can only come up with reasons when someone else tells them? That's hard to believe, but here we are.

Newsweek article:
Massachusetts Congressman Bennie Thompson, the former chairman of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack, has expressed concerns about House Speaker Kevin McCarthy handing over tens of thousands of hours of footage from the Capitol riot to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

...

In response, Thompson said McCarthy needs to explain to the American people why he is willing to allow "potential security risks" by letting Carlson go through the footage before deciding which parts to broadcast on his primetime show.

...

"When the Select Committee obtained access to U.S. Capitol Police video footage, it was treated with great sensitivity given concerns about the security of lawmakers, staff, and the Capitol complex," Thompson said.

"Access was limited to members and a small handful of investigators and senior staff, and the public use of any footage was coordinated in advance with Capitol Police. It's hard to overstate the potential security risks if this material were to be used irresponsibly."

Carlson is too busy practicing his confused puppydog look in the mirror to bother with thousands of hours of tape. There will be a small army of interns going through it all looking for juicy two-second snippets.

More on the security aspect...

“There’s thousands of hours of footage that are out there already, but the reason all of it wasn’t released is precisely because it lays out floor design, it lays out evacuation routes, it lays out where the vice president went, it lays out where the senior members of Congress were evacuated and so on,” Raskin said. “So I hope that Kevin McCarthy at least has planned for that.”

One source familiar with the Jan. 6 committee’s operations echoed that message, emphasizing that the panel never fully revealed then-Vice President Mike Pence’s evacuation route.

“We worked with Capitol Police ahead of time to make sure that we weren’t showing the VP’s exit route, the exit route for the Speaker, for the members,” the source said, noting the footage can also reveal the location of security cameras.

“We don’t want to let everyone know the schematics of the Capitol. This is a thing that is very important for the future security at the Capitol.”

So, we've got:
  • evacuation route for VP
  • evacuation route for Speaker
  • evacuation route for Congress
  • final hiding place for VP
  • final hiding place of senior members of Congress
  • location of security cameras
  • schematics of the Capitol

To summarize--detailed information associated with secure locations, security architecture, and security protocols.

According to Tucker Carlson, their producers are combing the video. 40,000 hours of video. That'd take over 140 people 40 hours each to go through the video... once. But his producers will finish it this week.

Hopefully they can uncover the false flag event that made other people plead guilty to federal crimes to avoid certain conviction in court and worse penalties.

So if Kevin McCarthy gave Tucker Carlson the nuclear launch codes, the appropriate conservative response would be, "Gosh, it sure is weird that no left-wing media source asked for the codes. What do you think they're hiding???"

Weird is the word, that's for certain.

… and that will need to be changed before the 2024 coup attempt.

Republican operatives will probably agree to change the exit route for the Speaker. It's a good thing Blanton isn't there anymore because as 1 of 3 people sitting on the Capitol Police Board, he had a lot of voting capacity. It isn't clear the allegiances of the remaining 2 or how those will change membership. (Sergeant at arms of the House gets nominated by the Speaker and serves only 2 years and then voted on by the House which now has a majority of Republicans. The Sergeant at Arms is a member of the Board, though it also alternates between Senate Sergeant at Arms and House Sergeant at Arms). In any case, the Board controls a lot of the agendas and annual goals around security and operations. So you would need 2 out of the 3 Board members to take seriously a security risk and prioritize making dramatic changes based on whatever info is released, to include--the possibility Cucker Tarlson, Fox News, producers, and anyone who can get access from this release will share or make available through unsecure means the video footage in its entirety or a portion thereof with unknown entities.

They are really sloppy at owning the libs. Why not just form a January 6th committee review committee to counter the arguments put forth by the January 6th committee. Wouldn't that help maintain security of the capital and give them the exposure they're seeking to own the libs?

I thought about that, too. Here's what I've come up with. They'd have to follow some procedures, especially around releasing the footage. They'd also be eating their words about doing a long drawn-out committee thing at the expense of taxpayer money. Each thing they'd release would be questioned by Democratic members of Congress as it came out. Meanwhile, this move allows them to multi-task and give the appearance of independent journalism as well as challenge the security risk interest on the basis of freedom of press, should it come up.

I don’t know. That sounds like a lot of work.

I for one am at a loss figuring out why footage of secure areas hasn't been released to the general public up until now. No siree, can't think of a single reason.

I suspect the traitors already had all this stuff and with traitors in Congress there's not much that can be done about it.

Oh, you can bet McCarthy planned for it, Mr. Raskin.

He just released it to someone guaranteed to feed it to the next insurrectionist mob.

News outlets demand access to Jan. 6 footage McCarthy gave to Tucker Carlson | The Hill
A group of news outlets are demanding that they receive access to tens of thousands of hours of surveillance footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) gave to Fox News host Tucker Carlson earlier this week.

Attorney Charles Tobin sent a letter on Thursday on behalf of 10 media organizations to congressional leadership to request all closed-circuit camera footage recorded inside the Capitol and on the grounds outside the building as was given to Carlson.

“The incredible public interest in understanding what transpired on January 6 crosses party lines,” the letter states.
The demanders: Advance Publications, ABC, Axios, CNN, CBS, The E.W. Scripps Company, Gannett, the Los Angeles Times, Politico and ProPublica.
“Without full public access to the complete historical record, there is concern that an ideologically-based narrative of an already polarizing event will take hold in the public consciousness, with destabilizing risks to the legitimacy of Congress, the Capitol Police, and the various federal investigations and prosecutions of January 6 crimes,” the letter states.

...
Tobin also sent an expedited request under the Freedom of Information Act on behalf of the 10 organizations, The Associated Press and The New York Times for the footage.
Gannett - owns USA Today and lots of local newspapers
E. W. Scripps Company - a big broadcasting company

Thus covering most of the mainstream news media in the US.
