Who is Caren Turner and why did she become the focus of a viral dashcam video?

While the video shows her haranguing police over the traffic stop, dropping the names of elected officials she knew, and her position as a Port Authority commissioner who oversees 4,000 police officers, the Tenafly police did not charge her with obstruction. But the chief of police made a call to the Port Authority's Inspector General, which led to an internal investigation and ultimately her resignation.

Is is not time for a national conversation on toxic femininity?

So a woman dropped names, therefore this is evidence that men are being persecuted and oppressed by women?

Do tell!

How does this have anything to do with female privilege? It wasn't female privilege she was trying to use.

But it does raise the spectre of abuse of power - to which females are prone, as demonstrated by the video.
There are more women running for office this year than ever before, so this has to be addressed in advance or it's gonna get outa control!

Anything a woman uses is female privilege, whether it is trying to influence a cop using politics or paying them off.

No, not really.

Doubt it... I think he just left off the /sarcasm tag.

This isn't an attempt to use female privilege. This isn't toxic femininity. This is just a lady being an asshat and police having to deal with her.

Yes, and moreover, this is probably the first time ever in the history of this forum that someone has tried to take a specific incident involving a specific individual and generalize it into some broadsweeping comment about the asshat-in-question's identity group.

That's what neo-fascist identarians ALWAYS say about stuff like this.
:D

No. It is a case of a person thinking they are something special because of her position, and is not beholden to the same rules as the rest of us mere peons. Arrogance and a sense of entitlement because of her position. Not her sex.

So... Trump's fault.

You really have to admire the professionalism and restraint of those two cops, who had to deal with an overprotective parent trying to use her political office to bully them. Of course, they were probably thinking about the dashcam running while she was mouthing off at them, realizing that she was in the process of terminating her political career. Had they given in to her demands, the record of that encounter would have had repercussions for their careers.

As for the OP, I think that the thread-starter's reaction to this incident was an excellent example of how people can stereotype women who are in positions of power. Ironically, the irate politician is someone who worked for Hillary Clinton, who was also a victim of that kind of double standard in public perception. Women are not supposed to be assertive bullies. Men--our current President being a prime example--can be assertive and domineering all the time, and a large segment of the public will instinctively react by applauding them. They are supposed to behave that way. Women aren't. So, even though there was nothing on the tape about gender being an issue in this incident, the author of the OP saw the gender of the bully as something that needed to be pointed out.

Fascinating. Statistics show this to be true, too.

What was she thinking? that she was Port Authority commissioner in .... Russia?
It is clear to me had she not been so demanding they would have told her what she wanted to know.

She thought she could have the same privilege as people like nj governor.

Very well put. This is exactly my experience.
