Fired Officer's Convictions a Rare Triumph for Rape Victims

He should serve very significant prison time. I just don't think he should have to die in prison when he didn't kill anybody.

So how many of the multiple rape convictions should carry zero penalty because Derec goes boo-hoo over a RAPIST serving time for ALL of his rape convictions?

Concurrent sentences are commonly given when there are multiple counts. You act like that would be some unprecedented occurrence.

Amazing how you can get life for rape but murderers like Mary Winkler get 60 days.

Sentences vary by state.

I find it amazing how many people, especially on here, find nothing wrong with this horrible miscarriage of justice. That man's life matters nothing to them. After all, he was just a man, and a white man at that.

The horrible injustice is that people were raped. The rape victims matter a great deal more than that the rapist should get to die outside of prison.

If there are miscarriages of justice in the justice system, turning this case into another one isn't going to balance things out.

You keep comparing a murder against a long series of raping people, which is like saying a grapefruit is more bitter than 13 littler grapefruits.
You keep advocating lesser sentences for rapists rather than harsher sentences for murderers, which apparently is abhorrent to you.
That doesn’t make a lot of sense. Unless murder’s not so abhorrent, and rape is significantly less so.

Fuck anyone that commits any violent crime 13 times. They need to die in prison.

On this I will agree with you 100%. Thirteen times... that we know of. These are only the women who finally came forward. I have no doubt there are at least that many who still didn't report.

And what makes this particular case even worse is that the man was a police officer. He used the authority of his badge to prey on vulnerable women he (correctly except for his last victim) believed were powerless to do anything about his rapes.

This man is the worst of the worst kind of rapist, and shows very clearly that rapists are first & foremost serial predators. Very few men rape, but those that do tend to do so over and over and over.

Of all of the cases of rape we have discussed on this board over the years, this case should be the one where everyone, even Derec, agrees the predator needs to be locked up for life with no hope of release back into society. Because he won't change. He is a predator. He needs to be away from society forever.

Based on your comment below, YOU.

Derec said:
In any case, why don't you answer the question from the other thread here? You are okay with a rapist of 1000 women to go to jail for 20 years and then walk the streets?
20 years is a very long time. And note that there are murderers who spent far less time in prison.

Derec, there are not many (or possibly any) serial killers who killed 1000 people who then spent less than 20 years in prison.

There is not any murderer anywhere ever who murdered 13 people and was convicted, but got less than life.
How many years did Brevik get in Norway for 70-odd murders?

Not for rape.

Well I disagree with that. Again, he didn't kill anybody and there are murderers walking out of jail after very little time served. That's just not right.

Well Derec, aren't those murderers the ones experiences a miscarriage of justice? How does letting a rapist off with a lighter sentence become the right thing to do? What about all the murderers who get life or death for their crimes everyday in the courts across America? Is your argument that they too should be let go? The fact that you can name these miscarriages of justice show them to number as a small percentage of rulings and yet you feel all subsequent sentencing should reflect some balancing act against them and not the majority of case too numerous for you quote the names of the defendents.

I know you think you are making a point about how white men are victimized by the courts, but what you aren't making that point. You are rallying for the release of a rapist. What ever arguments you may have, they will never rise above the noise of that simple fact.

I googled "serial rapist sentenced" to find some typical sentences:

3 rapes. Targeted erotic massage providers or who had wanted to sell panties.
The King County Prosecutor said the state’s Indeterminate Sentence Review Board has the option of adding more time to increase the sentence to life in prison for individuals convicted of violent sex crimes.

1 sexual assault, 10 other victims. Suspect in 21 area sexual assaults and rapes. Eligible for parole in 30 years.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/florida-kitty-rapist-sentenced-life-jail-article-1.2393202
Unspecified number of sexual assaults dating back to 2010. Convicted on 2 counts of rape. No parole possible.

Conclusion

Clearly life in prison without parole is not unusual.

In the cops "favor" is that he didn't have a prior history of crime, nor did he commit other crimes in his actions (e.g. robbery, battery, etc.).

However, he has three enhancements (in my book)...

1) He has up to 13 known victims.
2) He was a public safety officer who used the color of law.
3) It was predatory. It was planned and targeted against the most vulnerable (including handcuffing and raping a woman in a hospital).

I can't see less than spending a rock bottom minimum of 35 years in prison and up to life without parole. Perhaps when he is old and feeble he can be released...but not before.

Till then, 'bubba' will be looking for a new bitch.

I have no problem with the length of the sentence.
