GOP is taking a fast track to protect our health! ...and we didn't think they had a plan.

They are introducing two bills that will make suppressors (silencers) easier to get. It seems that they are worried about the hearing health of Americans exercising their 2nd amendment rights. This is obviously their primary health concern. Guess they don't like the look of the electronic ear protection devices that are READILY AVAILABLE.

I recently spend a whole day flinging hundreds of dollars worth of lead downrange with an AR15 and a Glock 19, using "electronic ears" and never suffered a bit. But I must admit, they don't exactly look sharp. Good to know that the GOP is looking after us and our fashion concerns.

Do bullets fired with a suppressor still have enough velocity to go through a layer of drywall and kill a pedestrian outside of a bar where the republicans want guns to be allowed in?

It would be a lesser America if bullets lost that crucial power.

Very good point. Americans should be able to protect their individual rights with the best technology and equipment their money can buy. And they could afford it if it weren't for taxes, which are theft. [/alt-r]

Are they going to outlaw smart guns that con only be fired by the owners? I'd hate to see toddlers lose their second amendment rights.

That actually makes sense. I´m a hunter and suppressors are a boon on a large caliber rifle. When you are training and hunting they lessen the damage to ears and just as important lessen the amount of sound pollution. Suppressors are legal in almost all countries in Europe, even the UK which has the strictest gun laws in the continent suppressors are allowed for all firearms. Seriously try it I had one fitted for my caribou hunt this fall and it was awesome, took a cow at 310 yards with a suppressed rifle.

Stopped clock etc.

The electronic ears DO have an odd effect on equilibrium (and aim) when you first put them on, and I'm sure it would be more fun to hunt with a suppressor. Obviously the question is whether making them freely available would result in more deaths per insane person/terrorist shooter than can be reasonably justified in terms of hunters' comfort. The last (only) time I ever shot with a suppressor was as a kid of about 14, back in the '60s. The pistol (a .38 of some sort IIRC) was still really loud, but I'd assume that suppressors have gotten 'better' since then (my main memory was that I couldn't aim worth shit with that thing). What do you think, Frikki? Would it make an AR or an AK more deadly in a terrorist-type attack?

Unless you get down to small caliber, subsonic rounds they're still very loud no matter what. What a suppressor does is keep the noise below the point of damage.

Even suppressed fire is well over 100db. Lets say you made it ten times as good--that only reduces 100db to 90db. A Hollywood style suppressor needs to let out only about 1 billionth of the noise of the shot and it can't hope to do anything about the crack of a supersonic round as that occurs outside the gun.

No it probably takes about 20-40 db of sound away you can still hear it but it does not make your ears bleed or disturb the neighbours 2 miles away. I recommend them.

Whatever form TrumpCare finally takes, we already know that it will be "amazing."

Lower costs, better coverage, more people with insurance, repeal of the taxes and a balanced budget. And it will be ready to sign within minutes of repealing ObamaCare.
