Government shutdown

Senator Chris Murphy makes a motion to open government for a few days while Congress works out the budget, CHIPS and DACA.

Republicans blocked it.

Regardless your position on the shutdown, Im a little confused when people place the blame on Trump claiming lack of leadership. I could understand if they said that about Paul Ryan because he is the speaker of house. But Trump? Its as though somebody has suddenly given the executive branch the authority to disburse money from the treasures or take part in crafting the budget.

What's Trump got to do with this? Or am I missing something?

You missing that Trump reneged on a bipartisan proposal to deal with DACA.

Trump only has veto power. A bipartisan proposal with sufficient support will pass even if the man-boy doesn't like it, as it did with the Russia Sanctions.

Also missing: the trumpster fires' tweets about how the last shutdown was all the responsibility of Obama. :D

I have to admit, having an easy to access record of what he has said in the past has proven pretty entertaining.

....and would likely be implemented in the same way, i.e. not at all.

Trump and the dems had an agreement that would have added the dems to the positive vote. Specifically, Schumer agreed to fund Trump's wall in return for Trump fixing DACA mess. Then Trump reneged after getting an earful from Miller.

Additionally, I think RVonse seems to confuse all of the blame with some of the blame as if there is no difference. I doubt many people place all of the blame upon Don the Con. I'm quite sure that most people also place a Yuge heaping of blame upon the Repug <cough>leadership in Congress.

Leadership and deal making were supposedly FFvC's forte....how shocking that it is just more BS.

The key word is "sufficient". If the President indicates he/she will veto a bill, then the necessary level of support needs to increase because the President's party is loathe to go against its "leader".

Because he keeps going back on verbally agreed upon deals. The LAST thing the GOP needs is to come to an agreement on a bill only to have Fickle Dickle VETO it in the 13th hour.

... he keeps going back on verbally agreed upon deals.

He has been doing that for over a half century. And promised to run the government like he "runs" his business.
Those who feign shock (particularly Rethuglicans) should be ashamed of themselves. If they didn't want a lying, cheating administration, they shouldn't have elected a lying, cheating Presidunce.

Trump has a large bully pulpit. He could be setting up conferences with all participants to get things done and he could cut the crap. He could try get people like McConnell who are sabotaging efforts to get something done doing something useful, and if McConnell doesn't do the right thing, make it clear to one and all that McConnell is indeed the clog in the toilet of life. Primary the bastard. Instead he does little, changes his mind, and does not have good advisers. There is a lot he could do but isn't. He isn't much of a leader.
