About 20 people are dead and at least 42 people were taken to area hospitals after a mass shooting at a downtown Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning, police have confirmed.

So we can only hope that it was "thugs" who were the shooter and the victims, and the really good news is that we can be expected to talk about this because of the number of people. We won't be asked why we are asking about the murder of a person someone may not have heard of, granted we haven't heard of these people too.

And guns don't kill people. The shooter could have easily used a knife to kill 20 people.

Oh, wait...there was! A uniformed police officer working security at the club engaged the bad guy in a gun battle!

When asked if it had anything to do with "radical Islamic terrorism," the FBI spokesman said that there have been "suggestions" that the shooter "might have leanings towards that ideology" but that they "can't say definitively."

Terrorism in Florida

Orlando, Florida (CNN) — Approximately 20 people are dead inside Pulse, a gay nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in the club. At least 42 people have been transported for medical treatment, he said.

Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.

"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him."

At least nine officers were involved in the shootout, Mina said. Several coroner vans were seen traveling toward the nightclub.

One officer suffered an eye injury when a bullet struck his Kevlar helmet, said Danny Banks, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Orlando bureau. The helmet saved the officer's life, Banks said.


The shooter is not from the Orlando area, Mina said.

Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror.

Clearly, the solution is to let people bring firearms to nightclubs so that there more drunken people with guns.

Also, Islam is a religion of peace so the shooter wasn't a real Muslim.

So a US born citizen has the name Omar and his parents are from Afghanistan - that means this discussion will devolve into a rant about "them moooslim terrorists" while the lives lost in the nightclub will be ignored, the numbers of guns this man had access to will be ignored, the white shooter who murdered the singer will be ignored.

And what the hell is going on Tampa Bay? Why are these shooters driving to Orlando to murder people? I've heard of driving across county/state lines to buy guns, but not to use them in shooting sprees.

The "left" doesn't have an "infatuation with Islam". We have had more than a few instances of late of right wingers attacking peacful Moslems in the news. Some people on the right have an unhealthy infatuation with Islam.
