Having more loaded weapons around makes everything safer, or at least that's the argument of gun nuts. They want more loaded weapons everywhere, from bars full of drunks to schools full of children. More guns makes everything safer and better, right?

Except the gun nuts themselves don't seem to practice what they preach. I guess having all those loaded weapons around an NRA convention made them feel a tad nervous.

IT'S A TRAP!!!!!

Can't these fools see that the NRA convention is no more than an elaborate ruse for Obama to catch them all unarmed so they can be rounded up and put into white slavery camps and be re-educated into homosexuals? Then he'll have his jackbooted thugs break unto their unoccupied homes so he can steal their guns and hand them out to black drug dealers?

It's so fucking obvious. I can't believe that the morons are falling for this.

The NRA could have a gun toting convention, complete with shoulder holsters and bandoliers of extra ammo, but they would have to rent a cow pasture. No arena large enough to hold their crowd will allow guns inside the facility. Imagine the liability insurance premiums for 10,000 people carrying loaded firearms. Since they want to keep it indoors, they have to accept a few infringements on their right to bear arms.

I've always wondered the same about gun shows, but they seem to be able to afford it.

Imagine the liability insurance premiums for 10,000 people carrying loaded firearms.
Why would there be higher insurance premiums for a venue full of armed NRA members? Is it the the NRA or insurance companies who are wrong about the safety of a venue full of working firearms?

To give a serious answer to a facetious question, a commercial facility which allows firearms into their facility could be held partially liable for the injuries caused by an accidental discharge of a weapon.

From their point of view, it's no different than if Verizon erected a cell tower at a trade show. If it falls on the crowd, the arena management will be named in the damage suit.

I did chuckle about this, but this is about the local regulations and the building's rules themselves. Not the NRA. Nothing to see here but mistaken irony.

There is still plenty of rightful irony. Would any national gay and lesbian organization hold their convention in a city or state that passed a law like the latest one in Indiana?

The NRA compromised their principles for commercial purposes. The people who attend NRA conventions are the affluent gun toters. They aren't going to come to a 2nd rate convention center in a small town that probably doesn't even have a Marriott.

The NRA's foundational principle is to be the large marketing agency for the gun industry. They care about the 2nd Amendment as much as Right to Life cares about the life of a baby.
