Handgun, yes or no....?

Hey, did we ever ascertain what the fuck this thread was originally intended to be about.

Where did this idea come from that he actually went to the kittens? Is there some part I'm missing?

You can see it in the first few seconds of the video.

The cat silhouette on the trail is one of the kittens. The dusty brown lump in the grass strip in the middle of the trail is the adult. The man is slowly walking towards them as he records the video. The kitten runs away just as the adult gets up and moves to intercept the guy, which is when he says "Oh, fuck!" and begins to retreat.

Up here in Alaska the scariest thing to encounter on a trail is a bear cub. They're really cute but don't even think about stopping to record them. Just back away and clear out before Momma decides you're a threat.

Exactly. Our summer hiking area here is mountain lion country. You can imagine there was a fair amount of discussion about what happened in that video in the hiking groups!

The half lunge told me right away she was protective, not aggressive. Tried to scare him away, not attack.

This is a little off topic, but my husband told me today that he is going to try and get rid of his ridiculous gun collection. Guns were something that he used to collect for no apparent reason imo. For many years, the damn things have been locked up and unloaded.

He gave up his carry permit about five years, much to my delight. I've been begging him to get rid of the other guns, although I could stand him to keep one in the night stand, partly because we live in an ultra safe neighborhood and I never expect him to need it. He was a gun toting liberal for years, carrying the damn thing almost every time we went out. Then he rarely carried it and then he came to his senses and decided that concealed carrying wasn't a great idea.

I've never owns a gun myself, although I was taught to use one and sometimes did target shooting when we lived in an exurban area several decades ago. I hate guns. I don't hate people who own them, but it does concern me because I've known so many women who never leave home without a gun in their purse. I always wonder what would happen if some of these women tried to use the gun in self defense. I've been told that one should never pull out a gun unless they are going to use it immediately. How many people who carry concealed would do that in a perceive emergency? How many times would the gun be taken from a small woman if she tried to use it? I had a supervisor who once brandished a gun at a man who was arguing with her at a traffic stop. No harm was done, but brandishing a gun is illegal and the man she aimed the gun at didn't really threaten her. He was just a jerk who was arguing with her.

Guns seem to end up doing more harm than they do protecting people. And, I'm not talking about shooting a wile animal in the woods. I'm talking about accidental shootings of all kinds. The 2nd amendment was the biggest mistake made by those who wrote our outdated constitution, imo. That's just my opinion.

I prefer weapons that require a little skill and training, thanks. :)

This is why all our home protection weapons are melee weapons: swords and maces. I practice regularly with the Falcata (usually disassembling limbs that fall or chopping other unwanted growth in my yard) though I have no good fixture for practicing with the mace. I occasionally wonder what the neighbors think seeing me with it removing stumps or cutting branches.

Same: Longsword, double headed axe, and several large daggers that are blunted to use as dueling/practice weapons. A viking style sword, sword-rapier (cut and thrust sword) and a katana that are all sharpened, made from high quality steel and would be very useful up close. I also have a couple of bows (45 lb and 30 lb draw) blow gun, throwing daggers, shuriken, and a Viking Hewing spear. I could go boar hunting with this spear.

Those are quite stunning. No, I don't have any old/period weapons. The only one I ever had was a bayonet that a once-friend from highschool chucked into a field and is now lost, 20+ years go now.

When it comes to weaponry, I tend to feel that period weapons belong in a display case. If I'm going to be swinging steel, it's going to be a piece I'm not too worried about notching the blade on. That said, I really need to get a good grindstone.

I agree. They are safely stored though some day I'd like to put the US Naval sword in a display case. It was my great grandfather's.

Has this thread become, "What weapons do you have in your house?" And if I list mine, do I have to list Wilma's 120mm recoilless rifle she inherited from Basil, and Huckleberry's helicopter gunship?

Bet you don't have a Barong. This one is over 125 years old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barong_(sword)

Well, I've got the most dangerous weapon a soldier can carry.

A radio.

Well, good. I have always felt I have a right, given to me by Jesus' pop, to carry a Glock into Chuck E. Cheese. Next time Dolli Dimples won't play the Muppets theme song, I'll bust a cap in her hippo ass.

Fascinating. You had to go back three years to find an example. Do you have any follow up to that story? Did that guy pass the background check that has been in place in decades?

I notice you picked a black guy for your example.
