Has there ever been an administration that created as much mistrust with Russia?

And Russia is doing absolutely nothing about it.
Did you listen to Putin's recent UN speech? The one he gave before he attacked those supported by America in Syria? not to mention many other speeches by many Russians recently.
That's because there's no longer NEED for caution. The United States is no longer Russia's sworn enemy,
N..Putin has been very clear many times recently of his view of the deterioration of relations, so I would not be too sure. Putin is bombing ISIS and others and Uncle Sam just dropped 50 tons of weapons to people associated with ISIS

Props to everyone who remembers Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and every President during the Cold War threatening Russia, building the DEW Line and missile launch sites, sending U2s into Russian air space, launching spy satellites and boomers, etc. But if you want to talk about a President who created the most mistrust between the Russians and the US, I nominate Wilson. He actually sent thousands of US Army troops into Siberia to help the Czar defeat the Red Army. We may have forgotten the American Expeditionary Force Siberia and the Polar Bear Expedition, but the Russians sure haven't, and they haven't trusted us since the day our troops landed on their soil.

Yes you are right. I should have said "since Kennedy" perhaps

No. You should have said, "Since George W. Bush."

No one is pretending there isn't tension between the U.S. and Russia, but any knowledge of history between the two nations in the 20th century and up to now reveals 1) Nothing that hasn't happened before; and 2) That the Obama administration is the least antagonistic toward Russia/Soviets since before the First World War.

And it's not that there isn't a legitimate issue to discuss about U.S.-Russian relations and the origins thereof, but you've missed the mark badly with your OP.

Just so there's no misunderstanding here:

1980s Russia responds to American provocations by mobilizing half its military in preparation for a nuclear war.

2015 Russia responds to American provocations by giving an obnoxious speech at the U.N.

Please explain how these two things are equivalent.

That's because there's no longer NEED for caution. The United States is no longer Russia's sworn enemy,
N..Putin has been very clear many times recently of his view of the deterioration of relations...
Which still doesn't make the United States Russia's sworn enemy. If anything, we're Russia's asshole neighbor who whose dog keeps pissing in their bushes.

The director of Roskosmos put it best when he was asked about the worsening relations with America and NASA potentially cutting off cooperation with the Russian space agency. His responses was to chuckle and say "I hope the Americans have a really big trampoline."

That's how boned we are right now. We cut off scientific support to the Russians, they fucking laugh at us and say "Yeah, good luck with that."

It was not director of Roskosmos. It was this guy

And I don't think it's fair to bring Cold War time, even though US did a lot of nasty stuff there like Cuban crisis and such.
I think we should start with breakup of Soviet Union and creation independent Russia. So this means Clinton, Bush and Obama.
Russia had "best" relation with US when it was weak (during Clinton). Bush administration did try to lie to russians about purpose of their eastern Europe missile defense, but it was not big deal, Russians explained to former Warsaw Pact friends that they will automatically become a target for iskanders and most of them (except Poland of course) lost interest in the idea. Worst Bush did was 2008 attack on South Ossetia and russian peace-keepers, that was not nice at all. Obama did try to patch things up but it seems they could not bear Putin as lifelong president and decided to undermine him instead, which is ironic because many people believe that Putin decided to become a president because of what Bush did - georgian war.

Russian troops in Georgia were as much as "peacekeepers" as American troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. And if you have any evidence of US troops actually being involved apart from insinuations from Putin, be my guest.

You are probably right that there are many people who were gullible enough to think that Putin would have given up power, because many people are idiots. In reality, Putin stepped away from being a president for a while but he never gave up the strings, and probably planned to have himself be elected again from the start. The only reason he didn't is because he realized that trying to get rid of term limits would have looked bad and there was no reason to play a perfectly constitutional theatre for the sake of appearances.

US trained troops were obviously involved. And just because Georgian president does not like peace-keepers does not make them wrong.

Maybe, but we will never know what would have happened if McCain's friend Saaka had not decided to attack Russia.

I stand corrected, but I also doubt his bemused reaction was unique among Russian engineers.

Well, they have to share the same space station. But ability of Americans to forget about sanctions when is suits them is pretty amazing.

That's kind of what I mean.

Congress can bluster and saber-rattle all they want, but the end result is that American astronauts just have to hang their heads in quiet embarrassment while asking those very same Russians for a ride to and from the space station.

Increasingly these days, being an American astronaut is a lot like being the child of an alcoholic: you find yourself constantly apologizing for the stupid shit your parents said while at the same time having to bum a ride from your neighbors because said parents totaled your car and sold the parts for more booze.

I suspect they do in fact apologize (privately) :)
But US will have their new human rated rocket pretty soon.
