Here Comes The Left

The glaring absence of verify is the reason "believe women" became a slogan.
It's related to the radfem article of faith that "women don't lie about rape". That's the reason that radical feminist "National Organization for Women" continued to support false rape accuser Jackie Coakley even after it was determined that she fabricated the whole thing.
It might be related to an either-or position some extremists take but it is firmly rooted in the history of police officers disregarding and failing to investigate reports of rape and sexual assaults.

Remember when the Ohio AG found out about all the untested rape kits gathering dust in police departments across his state and secured funding to have them tested?

Forensic scientists with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) have now analyzed all 13,931 rape kits submitted by local law enforcement for DNA testing as part of Attorney General DeWine’s Sexual Assault Kit (SAK) Testing Initiative. A total of 8,648 DNA profiles have been uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) as a result of the testing, and 5,024 matches to offender DNA and/or DNA collected from the scenes of other crimes have occurred to-date. Charges have been filed against hundreds of attackers.

The nearly 14,000 sexual assault kits submitted as part of the initiative were connected to attacks that occurred between 1971 and 2014. The Cleveland Police Department submitted the largest number of kits (4,418), followed by the Toledo Police Department (1,802), Akron Police Department (1,432), Columbus Police Department (482), Springfield Police Department (367), and Cincinnati Police Department (338).

A full list of submitting agencies and CODIS hits per agency can be found here.

The majority of CODIS hits obtained as a result of the DNA testing linked two cases together, but 300 DNA profiles were linked to between three and 18 cases. In total, those 300 serial offenders were linked by DNA to 1,127 crimes in the CODIS database.

Three hundred serial sex offenders discovered and tens of thousands more persons linked to other crimes, all because the "verify" part finally happened.

I agree with you that "believe women" should be "believe persons reporting crimes are truthfully reporting what they genuinely believed happened while still understanding that they might be mistaken or misremembering details and possibly still in shock, and also keeping in mind that while ~95% of the time evidence can be found that supports the claims there are times when the claims are either unfounded or false, so it is extremely important to diligently and conscientiously investigate the claims in order to verify them". That's a lot of words, though.

Maybe we should just say "Police officers should do their jobs diligently and conscientiously when they receive reports of crimes and not ignore them".

Yup, no one can be against what Israel is doing for any reason other than religion. Totally. And if you're a Muslim, obviously, the only reason you might be against what Israel is doing is because religion. It only makes sense, for some reason.
If you hold Israel to a standard you would not apply to any other country, then you have to ask yourself why? Any country would respond very forcefully to attacks like 10/7. Any country would respond forcefully to being attacked with suicide bombings and unguided rockets for decades.

If you think Israel has no right to defend itself, why not? What's different about Israel, other than that it's the only Jewish state in the world.
You have said out loud what should not be said out loud.
And that does not apply just to Muslims of course; there are plenty of antisemitic Chirstians and even atheists. But hatred of Jews is endemic among Muslims in today's world. Especially Twelver Shiites like the theocrats in Iran and the Mamdanis.

Except I never have and I've disavowed the military actions of the U.S. for example. You just never pay attention.

That's a hit piece and the headline is a lie. The posts she liked made no mention of the 10/7 attack.
Bullshit. While some of the pro-Hamas posts she liked are from years ago before the 10/7 attacks, she also liked the post that was about the 10/7 attack.

She liked this post. No mention of the 10/7 attack? Then what it is about in your opinion?

She also liked this one.

What resisting do you think peoplesforumnyc was making a reference to on October 7th 2023? Be honest for once.
From the article:
It is unclear when Duwaji liked the Slow Factory post, or the materials that the People’s Forum — ...— posted to Instagram on Oct. 8, 2023.
Yet you pronounced her guilty.

If she was a guy accused of rape I'm sure you would use this to defend her. Your double standards are showing.

We don't know exactly when she liked it because that's how IG likes work, but it logically has to be after the 10/7 attacks. What difference does it make when exactly she liked the pro-10/7 posts?

In this case there is incontrovertible evidence that she liked these posts; the comparison is whack even for you.

It was the  generic you, not targeted at you specifically.

Said by no one here.
Maybe not in this thread, but it is a common position on the anti-zionist left
If it’s common then you will have no trouble locating examples and quoting those persons with links to the articles that reported it.

But if this is one of those things only True Believers can perceive because it’s ‘spiritually discerned ‘ then obviously you can’t quote people saying it, you can only claim they think it.

Because it's quite possible to not know in the time frame. The attack was first reported in the US the following morning. The extent of the attack, even then, was still not known. It took several more hours for details of what happened to start coming in. And even longer for complete reports to be made.

If she was a guy accused of rape I'm sure you would use this to defend her. Your double standards are showing.

Again, the posts did not mention the attack. Just general resistance.

Like, I'll repeat: it's not rocket science. The biggest problem with conservatives is that whole "verify" step.

I've been overseeing a math research program for the last week and a half, and if I learned anything, it's to have honest verification tests in hand before you even go out looking, but ABSOLUTELY go looking!

Said by no one here.
To be fair, I don't think a nation or a human or anything in this world has a right to defend themselves against something they say others have an obligation to accept. That's pure hypocrisy and I will not stand for it.

They have, at best, a right to sue for mercy, created only the first moment where they consign themselves to meaningful oversight in pursuit of mercy to others.

Nothing in theory. But judgment requires including context, behavior and realistic projections of action. Something that is many times lacking in your analysis.
What possible context would relativize putting Marxist ideas in the DSA constitution? What possible context would make Mamdani saying that "winning socialism" includes "the end goal of seizing the means of production"?

As to "realistic projections of actions": of course people like Mamdani and DSA will not try their most extreme policies right away. But so what? They still hold these views. We should not ignore them.
We shouldn't ignore any actions. The truth is that the system is built in such a way that it is normally very very hard to enact radical changes... if your name isn't Donald Trump. As Mayor, he is stuck with the limitations at hand. Also, being in power, and being at the whim of the consequences of extreme action also can moderate how one governs. Especially when you have advisors saying "ah... no, that won't work". Your fear of NYC becoming socialized is just dumb. There is too much capitalistic power concentrated in that city to allow it.
Pointing that out does not make one a "leftist" or a "Marxist" or "pro-Hamas".
Making Marxist statements (see Mamdani's statements and DSA constitution) does likely make one a leftist and a Marxist.
Liking posts defending the October 7th attack on Israel (like Mamdani's wife) does make one pro-Hamas.
I would say there is a difference between being pro-Hamas and liking posts about the massacre, the later would be much much worse.
There is not much nuance needed here as the positions themselves are not nuanced. It's no different than calling somebody who defended Hitler's actions a Nazi.
That is the thing. You just name-calling people, instead of speaking out against actual positions and actions. Contemporary positions and political actions while in charge.

Based on hiseducation and work experience would you

Hire him as an economic or financial advisor? Manage your finances?

Hire him as president or manager of a company?

Zohran Mamdani's work experience includes community organizing, foreclosure prevention counseling, state politics, and the arts, culminating in his election as Mayor of New York City.

Education: BA African Studies

Change Corps: Worked briefly as a trainee for the community organizing program after college.

Foreclosure Prevention Counselor: Served as a housing counselor in Queens, helping local residents at risk of losing their homes and avoiding evictions.

Music and Film: Worked as a hip-hop artist under the names Young Cardamom and Mr. Cardamom, and served as a music supervisor on the 2016 film Queen of Katwe.

Not that he right is any more competent and less ideologcal, the left is supporting activists without any real world relevant experience.

The norm here in Seattle where progressive activist politicians appear dumbfounded trying to figure out how to manage budgets and figure out where all the allocated social program spending went.

Our new mayor is about as qualified as Mamdani. She wants to provide free meals tor all students instead of those that need it, and trying to find ways to pay for it, while the city has a huge budget shortfall.

Both Mamdani and Trump are populists.

AI Overview
Populism is a political approach that splits society into two groups: the pure, ordinary people and the corrupt, self-serving elite. It champions the common person, uses a moral-versus-immoral framework, and distrusts established institutions.

... populism focuses on a moral conflict between ordinary people and a corrupt elite

Populism is a contested concept[1][2] for a variety of political stances that emphases the idea of the "common people", often in opposition to a perceived elite.[3] It is frequently associated with anti-establishment and anti-political sentiment.[4]

Until you elucidate what “qualifies”someone to be a mayor other than any legal eligibility requirements and winning the vote, your post reminds me of my cranky neighbor complaining about dogs peeing on their lawn.

None of these things are what a mayor is supposed to be. There are also separate jobs to handle a city's finances. I also wouldn't trust any politician to be my financial advisor. It would be weird to do that when there are people who specialize in financial advice.

The left scares me far more than the right. Mao's Cultural Revolution' comes to mind.

Tear everything down without any idea of a working system to replace it. And no experience to make it work.

Obviously changes have to e made, the income disparity that is getting worse. Social democracy lokng l[ke a slppery slope to Marxism, at least for some of hte left.

Trump and the wacky right is obviouisly attmping a kind of coup. The far left won't be any better, maybe worse given the chance..

There has been similar rhetoric from progressives here in Seattle.

A no experience PHD student endorsed by the mayor of NYC based on ideology. There is a slippery slope for you. Endorsed by a mayor whose only experience is activism, not management. Just like Trump is doing on the right.

Are we headed to full blown third world armed civil war?

Deleted tweets on Darializa Avila Chevalier’s account had favorable references to communist leaders and Marxism

Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Democratic congressional nominee endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who ousted longtime Rep. Adriano Espaillat in Tuesday’s primary, maintained a since-deleted Twitter account with repeated sympathetic references to communism, Marxist ideology and Soviet figures, including Vladimir Lenin.

Avila Chevalier, a sociology PhD student whose victory sent shockwaves throughout the Democratic establishment, has been under fire for a since-deleted Twitter account, previously reported by CNN, that included phrases such as “seize the means of production,” along with calls to abolish police, prisons and borders. Other controversial tweets include one that said Black and Arab men are both “Fetishizing ugly colonizer women” and another that described wiping her dirty hands on the American flag in lieu of a napkin.

Mamdani-backed congressional candidate deleted posts calling to seize private property, abolish police, borders, prisons

, a democratic socialist congressional candidate endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, deleted a previous Twitter account that included thousands of posts and reposts expressing support for abolishing police, prisons and borders, as well as seizing private property and nationalizing major industries and calling into question Israel’s right to exist.

Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old investigator at a public defender’s office in New York City and doctoral student, has emerged as one of the most prominent left-wing challengers in the country after Mamdani endorsed her bid to unseat longtime Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District.

But the posts from her since-deleted account from over the last decade have drawn scrutiny amid her high-profile challenge of Espaillat, a five-term incumbent and chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. That primary, scheduled for June 23, has become a closely watched proxy battle between the Democratic Party’s establishment and its ascendant democratic-socialist wing, with Mamdani’s endorsement last week elevating the race’s national profile.

Bill Maher's not putting up with it:

Our new mayor. Another activist social democrat with no relevant experience for mayor. No relevant work experience of any kind, odd jobs and activism.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson identifies as a democratic socialist. While municipal positions in Seattle are officially nonpartisan, she ran on a platform focused on working-class equity, housing affordability, and labor rights.

At the yearly Bite Of Seattle food festival a week ago or so ago we had a mass shooting. Three teens shooting at each other wounded several and killed two bystanders, a two year old was wounded. One shooter dead, one in custody, one on the run.

The police chief was out of town. There was a 5 hour delay before any press conference. People complained they were not warned of a potential shooter on the run. The mayor took a lot of criticism. On camera her eyes were going from side to side while talking and head jerking around. Clearly out of her depth lacking the experience to handle a crisis.

She blamed the police chief and asked him to resign or get fired, paying him off with a
$700,000 settlement.. All within days o the shooting. No fact finding or investigation. In the face of wide criticism for the firing she essentially said ‘I am the god damn mayor’. Very Trump like. Pols showvoters lame the mayor by a wide margin.

I think democrat socialist has become the label or identity du jour. It sounds and feels radical.

It sounds cool to say you are a democratic socialist.

This is all why I am more afraid of the left than right.
