How rich is this?

Rob Wasinger, a onetime congressional candidate who has been working for the Trump camp on congressional outreach, sent an email to senior Senate aides saying, "We want to get several member statements out today on this, and would really appreciate your help."
A similar appeal was made to Republicans in the House of Representatives, according to a senior aide.
Attached to the appeal were talking points lawmakers could use to try to tamp down the controversy growing since last week's appearance at the Democratic convention by the Khans, the parents of U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed by a bomb in Iraq 12 years ago.
The asshole is looking for people to back up his trolling of a slain soldier's mother's religion.

I don't know what is worse, that he sent a letter asking for backup in his trolling, or that he sent a letter in the first place. Whine, whine, whine about the GOP and now he needs cover, and his campaign is surprised the GOP aren't jumping out in front of the bullets for him.

After all the "sacrifices" he made for them...

Carl Paladino trying to Swiftboat a Gold Star parent:

All right, I don’t care if he’s a Gold Star parent. He certainly doesn’t deserve that title, OK, if he’s as anti-American as he’s illustrated in his speeches and in his discussion. I mean, if he’s a member of the Muslim Brotherhood or supporting, you know, the ISIS-type of attitude against America, there’s no reason for Donald Trump to have to honor this man.

Kahn’s [sic] history of advocating for Islamist terrorists like the Muslim Brotherhood and his prior communications with terrorist individuals and organizations give reason to his dumb attempt to enter the arena and re-define to real Americans the Trump they know as a patriotic leader who will confront and destroy America’s demons and do what Hillary and her hero Barack don’t have the fortitude or disposition to do.

Hillary’s staff obviously wrote the speech. She even bought him the pocket constitution which he probably never read but also returned to the staff after the speech.

Please, not another thread where we insult assholes. Mine has done nothing wrong.

Those parents were speaking at the DNC for no reason other than to attack Trump. Having a son who was killed in the military should not make them immune from criticism. The elder Khan for example is an islamist who wrote in favor of Sharia law.

Having a son who got killed while in military should render parents immune from criticism?

Nah - but perhaps exempt from religious-based mockery by an ignorant draft-dodging asshole who thinks that fleecing small businesses for millions of dollar for his personal gain is a "sacrifice" equivalent to losing a son.

YA THINK???

If they were criticizing his statements about Trump, no one would have found it unseemly.
"Mr. Trump is not, in fact, making statements about Muslims not being Americans!"
Which would have had the obvious effect of being called a flat-out lie, but it wouldn't have invoked Gold Star horror.

It's hard for the blind bigots to comprehend, but the trouble started when Trump mocked them for being Gold Star parents. And that criticism, yeah, they're pretty much immune from, according to societal norms.

But you keep on thinking the outrage is about whether they can say stuff against Trump without getting criticism for what they said about Trump.

See how far that gets ya.

If you are in the final rounds of a talent competition where your rival is elaborately introduced with having served the military, then while fully expecting that likability is more of a factor than skill when it comes to the votes you will get, remember, and remember well, not to bad mouth your rival.

Oh no, they attacked Trump! How dare they. Poor Trumpy Wumpy.
