A relatively new-to-me favorite is Meshuggah! Love the polyrhythms and just über-heavy sounds!
Definitely, that's one of those bands I wish I would have gone to see when I still could.
RIP Peter Steele, you were one crazy dude.
They were such a rare breed in the genre. I doubt we'll ever again hear a band like them again. Pete Steele was unreal. I had the distinct (and brief) pleasure of doing a shot of whiskey with him and Josh Silver (keyboardist/vocalist) back in '96 when they opened up for Pantera in Kansas City. He truly was a giant in person - 6'5" at least and built like a brick. "Everything Dies" is one of their best (of many) tracks.
New Aggaloch album (The Serpent and The Sphere) is the jam if you're into that sub-genre.

I really like Agalloch, and this is a great album. It doesn't quite hit their high water mark set by The Mantle, but it is a close second in their discography for me.

Agreed. I downloaded the album to my ipod the day it came out and I can't stop listening to it. They're good live if you ever get a chance to see them. This style of music doesn't produce the most energetic shows so it's not quite as much fun as seeing Goatwhore or Behemoth but it's awesome if the venue has a bar you can chill at while watching them play.
a little throwback to one of the best metal cover songs- Machine Head, "Message In A Bottle"

EDIT: It was the Tempe, AZ show in '96.
Haven't gotten into Mesuggah, link us some top tracks.
