How gays sound like

Yeah unless your Rob Halford, or literally thousands and thousands of other gay guys who could beat the daylights out of you with one arm in a sling.
Just what we need- more schoolyard bullies.

My point was, it's very frequently a very bad idea to try and bully or pick on a gay guy. You may be aware that the world (especially the US) is full of bullies who have historically, and to this day, picked on and harassed, as well harmed and even killed, gay people.

You are responding to my comment about the supposedly funny image that in my mind spoke positively about the FAFO meme ( fuck around, find out), in another thread. I assume this because your words are a near exact copy of mine.

Where I'm from, back in NY, the kind of guy who had the fuck around find out attitude was almost always the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing idiot who lived by the idea that might makes right. If you can't back up your words with your fists, they boast, your words are useless, and have no meaning or value. If you can't duke it out, you are advised to keep quiet, and not "run your mouth".

I haven't yet heard or seen the FAFO meme used by anyone I could admire, though I do understand the basic concept, and I am all for methods of social retribution that can really be thought of as justice (like a harassed, threatened gay guy beating the tar out of some jackass).

I hope you agree with me that if someone uses force to defend themselves from someone who is harming them, then that is not bullying?

I personally don't think you should have to be a scary looking beefcake just to not get assaulted in public. Plenty of straight guys don't like hitting people or being hit by them either.

How excellent!
I don't remember the last time you posted something 98% of people would agree with.

And twice in one post! It's a miracle.

I don't recall you posting anything directly at me that didn't make you sound like a bit of an asshole, and you're still 1-1. Good work.

Well, ya know what those white cis faggots from Indiana is like.

Still trying to plumb the depths of shallowness that would prompt someone to start such a stupid thread, but whatever.

Gays sound like a bunch of cars honking horns.

Gays sound like purring cats.

Gays sound like a swarm of buzzing bees.

Gays sound like roaring lions.

Gays sound like human beings?

As far as I'm concerned people, everyone, can talk however they want. The only reason you would want to quantify that stuff is as a precursor to some sort of judgement.

I, too, have wondered about the change in Dr Z's posting style.

But, Don 2, what you have done is convince me that AI may not be entirely counterproductive.
I think we can agree on one thing, YouTube can easily be nothing more than a dubious leaping off point.

What are you on about? Who would have a problem with people sounding gay?

You seem upset about something?
1) You spammed the board with a video without any reference to what the video was about
2) According to ChatGPT's review, the video is clickbait asking why gay's sound like they do, because it concludes gays don't actually sound like that
3) Your very limited text on the OP implies that there is an answer... there isn't.

My partner of over 30 years is extremely gay. Came out in a Podunk small town in southern Indiana.
Several years back he was there visiting, while wearing a shirt that said "How dare you assume I'm straight?"
His ex f-i-l commented that only he could get away with that shirt. Because while he's not big, he's scrappy. After school fights were his favorite sport. He'd kicked the butts of most people who would have given him a hard time. Everyone knew better than to pick a fight with Doug.

My point is that stereotypes about almost everything, particularly gay guys, are dangerously wrong.
Tom
It wouldn't be a stereotype if it were accurate.

I had a few gay friends over the years but I was never inside the culture.

It must be weird for gays when people outside the community talk about what is and isn't correct about gays.

Yes, there is. They explain it... in the video

Your entire post is dumb. You sound like someone picketting a movie they haven't seen because they're just sure somehow it must be immoral

One of Dr Z;'s rational responses? HeeHeeHee.

800ish feet above mean sea level, though I'm uncertain the relevance.

Daily vitamin.

According to a non-scientific ChatGPT research effort by others, the literature isn't even clear that 'sounding gay' even exists.

Well, I am picketing the new Spiderman movie as it unfairly depicts people who have suffered from mutations after being bitten by a radioactive spider.

I'm in the queer scene. I can 100% verify that sounding gay is absolutely a thing. Not all gays sound like that. They also trigger eachother. The more gays in a group, the more they sound like that. There's a reverse one among lesbians. Also... totally a thing. My 99% lesbian girlfriend totally does it around her lesbian friends.

I suspect it's hard to study scientifically. How the fuck do you quantify "sounding gay"? It's really subtle. So I understand why a ChatGPT analysis would be skeptical.

Anyway.... insisting on denying sounding gay is a thing I think has to do with being woke as fuck, ie anxious liberal white middle class with only anxious liberal white middle class friends in a ideological bubble where everyone is EXACTLY LIKE YOU, and somehow think they understand how life is for everyone in the entire world. I think.

I think you're the wokest person on this forum btw. If I'd create a woke comedy character I'd problably base it on you.

That's actually funny. I knew you had a sense of humour somewhere!

Well gosh... you didn't say you had anecdotal evidence. That clinches it!

You're such a parody of the woke.

The gay guys in the video also think its a thing. As well as every gay person I've ever met. Its just accepted as a given, because its so obvious

Honestly, I'd need to actually have a position on this in order to even consider my position as "woke". Up to this point, I hadn't even considered it at all.

Anecdotal evidence and a YouTube video?! All we need is "other people are saying" for the tri-fecta.
As well as every gay person I've ever met. Its just accepted as a given, because its so obvious.
Judges will award that!

Some food for thought.
paper said:
Inspection of the percentages of correct identifications revealed a different pattern for self-identified heterosexual and self-identified gay speakers: The former were correctly categorized in 63% of all cases which differed reliably from chance (i.e., accuracy at 50%), chi-square = 18.71, p < .001, whereas the likelihood of correct identification of gay speakers was below chance (39% correct identifications, chi-square = 14.68, p <.001).
paper (emphasis added) said:
The last issue addressed in our studies refers to language-specificity that is the question whether listeners are able to recognize the SO of an individual who speaks a different language. Our results seem to show that the process is not language-specific, but that it works similarly with speakers of distinct languages. Differently from previous research by Valentova et al. [21], our cross-cultural experiments showed that listeners are incorrect in judging SO of both own and other language speakers. The different pattern of results may be easily explained by the fact that the categorization was based solely on voice in our studies, whereas in Valentova's study [21] participants had both vocal and visual information available when judging the targets’ SO. Thus, the availability of a more complex and rich signal system could indeed facilitate the recognition of people SO, which is an ambiguous feature that is difficult to detect. Nonetheless, both Italian and German listeners in our studies made a distinction between groups of speakers who were perceived as sounding gay or heterosexual, and this was true for both same- and other-language speakers. In fact, there was a surprisingly high agreement (r = .75) between the judgments of Italian and German listeners, although these judgments rarely coincided with the self-identified SO of the speakers. Although we have no data directly speaking to the question of what cues listeners use when judging the SO of foreign speakers, we may speculate that the process occurs on the basis of the cues of one’s own language: When rating foreign speakers, listeners might rely on those cues that they associate to gayness in their native language. Thus, Germans may rate Italian speakers based on duration and F2 measures, whereas Italians may base their ratings of German speakers on durational measures and /s/ center of gravity. In our data, durational measures were important for listeners of both languages and might, at least in part, explain the agreement in the judgments of listeners of the languages.

However, we cannot exclude that language characteristics other than the acoustic features investigated here might affect the listeners' judgment. In fact, an interesting, unpredicted finding was that Italian speakers sounded, on average, more gay than German speakers to both Italian and German listeners. It is conceivable that some languages such as Italian and French sound more melodic or “feminine”, whereas others such as German may sound more masculine (for empirical support see [44, 46, 47]), which in turn may make their speakers appear more or less gay-sounding. However, the perception of languages may not be absolute and universal. Italian may be a gay or feminine language for German, but not for listeners of other languages. If supported by future research across larger samples of languages, this may be a socially relevant case of sound symbolism, according to which sounds reveal meaning and promote images, a principle that has also been deployed in the creation of brand labels [48].
