How should Putin be prosecuted?

It seems to me that Putin has clearly violated international criminal law, specifically violating crimes against peace and waging aggressive war.

This is defined as “the use of armed force by a State against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of another State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Charter of the United Nations.” By UN resolution.

The ICC in The Hague can prosecute such charges. But no one has been prosecuted for this since 1946. Those found guilty were all executed.

But I don’t think the ICC has the death penalty. Life in prison is all it has.

But considering that Putin has pretty much violated almost all the same laws as the Nuremberg defendants, should he not suffer the same penalty? Crimes against humanity and other war crimes.

I can envision Russians revolting against him, and maybe turning him over to the Court. Probably not in the end. I suspect that they’ll just kill him. I don’t see him killing himself.

I would never suggest that ”the West” should do whatever they can to further that effort. That would be wrong. So wrong.

For sure. He is presently motivated to not get caught. He is in a trap. He sees much of the world changing and decided to make Ukraine his Rubicon. The Russian state is essentially a prison in which he feels relatively safe as its warden / top inmate and he needs Ukraine to be part of the territory he controls.

He will never be able to travel the world freely. His fate is Hitler's, and that will never change.

But a crime?
Perhaps, in the eyes of the law. I don’t know. But hopefully it’s the Will-O-Gawd. We shall see. Maybe Tuesday things will get outa control at the Miami courthouse and an innocent bystander named Don gets *accidentally* run over by an armored SUV or something, and Pootey gets despondent and offs himself.
Wednesday could be a great day!

Well he'd better start touching democracy if he plans to avoid the same fate as the last Tsar. He seems to resemble the type of leadership the Bolsheviks murdered a entire family over.

The people of Russia should prosecute him for his theft and coverup for the oligarchy to hoard the national riches. That is the best hope for him ever being prosecuted. He isn't getting prosecuted anywhere outside of Russia.

His propaganda is popular at home but he isn't. If Ukraine could capture him the war would end that minute.

I thought he was very popular at home for producing The Second Chechen War sequel.

The "top-level" legal framework of the world is anarchy. International law is more of a guideline, because there isn't anyone to enforce it. So Putin will either die of old age, or be removed in a coup. He will never face any kind of legal process or be in any way inconvenienced by the Hague's arrest orders.
