Right behind you so ... BOO!
Basic Beliefs
non-theist, anarcho-socialist
Here are some synonyms different outlets, as well as law enforcement officials, came up with:

CNN:
melee
ruckus
fracas
brawl
fistfight
brouhaha
“issues”
trouble
chaos

New York Times:
shootout
chaos
fight
confrontation
problems

Waco Tribune:
shootout
altercation
biker gang shooting
incident
“What happened here today” (Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton)
“gun fights” (Swanton)
melee (Swanton)
scuffles and disturbances (on the issue of related violence around the city)
very dangerous, hostile criminal biker gangs (Swanton)
something akin to a war zone

KWTX:
turned a local restaurant into a shooting gallery
a rival motorcycle gang fight
melee
absolute chaos (Swanton)
a situation like happened Sunday afternoon

Nine people are dead, 18 people were wounded and 170 people are charged in a brouhaha.

Oh, those zany goofs. They're always getting up to some kind of shenanigans.

Riot? This was a fight between rival groups, not a riot.

And what's the point of this thread anyway??

rival "groups"

What were they? Garden Clubs?

I think the media has done a pretty nice job pointing out they were violent criminal biker gangs, not garden clubs.

I was not aware until recently that the left did not find these descriptions to be negative in nature, or accurate descriptors for violent criminal biker gangs.

If two gangs decided to have a shootout -- white or black -- I wouldn't call it a riot.

170 people have been charged in a situation the escalated from a disagreement to fights with weapons and 9 dead. This was more than a flapdoodle or brouhaha. Sounds like a mini-riot to me.

Well I think we can all thank our lucky stars that it didn't escalate into a contretemps.

We dodged a bullet there.

Well, only figuratively speaking in the case of the 27 dead or injured. Obviously they didn't manage to literally dodge a bullet.

Using a word like "brouhaha" is an attempt by the media to trivialise an event in which 9 people died.

#WhiteLivesMatter

Or is that not the lesson we are meant to draw?

Pony Boy took me to a fight between the Greasers and the Socs, but that was more a rumble than a riot.
