I grew up in a post WWII world. Lotsa dudes proudly displayed photos and trophies of vanquished enemies. It's not strictly a Muslim or Somalian thing.

Can you post a source for that? I'm coming up empty. Not that I find it impossible. Just curious, and would be interested in reading about it.
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I'm not sure where my copy is atm, so I can't reference a page number for my edition. And of course, the Nazis did the same thing but not with Indians. It seems that people have many ways to be horrifically inhumane when we decide it is convenient to count other human beings as not being really people on the same level as we are.
Again, it isn't that I don't believe you, or that I even find the claim terribly implausible, but the searches I've done not only do not turn up any citations of it, but say that there is no such mention of it in Dee Brown's book. I have the book somewhere, but never finished it, as is the case for me with probably a hundred books. Buried somewhere in a box.
