Helicopter carrying Iran’s hard-line president apparently crashes in foggy, mountainous region

Ebrahim Raisi is known as a hardliner, and is even considered one of the likely successors for "Supreme" Leader Khamenei. Even though the chopper went down several hours ago, the lithobraking site has not been reached due to weather and rugged terrain. So his status, or the status of the foreign minister who was in the same helicopter, remains unknown. It is almost 11 pm in Iran, which will further hinder search and rescue efforts.

Maybe he is with the virgins already ...

We can only hope.

The first report I read was that the helicopter crashed during landing.

Yeah. Doesn’t look good for him. But what’s the impact? Will it hurt the hardliners? Or embolden them further?

The term lithobraking is usually reserved for space craft. But you do you.

Iranians Celebrate President Raisi’s Helicopter Crash | Iran International
noting
Iran International English on X: ""Let's celebrate the good news of Ebrahim Raisi's chopper crash," a Tehran resident is heard saying in a video he sent to @IranIntl. (vid link)" / X

Kaveh Shahrooz کاوه شهروز on X: "Live your life in such a way that people don't set off fireworks and give out sweets in anticipation of the news of your death. (vid link)" / X

Iran International English on X: "Iran International is obtaining videos showing Iranian people celebrating the news of President Ebrahim Raisi's chopper crash. (vid link)" / X

"Aside from being one of the most conservative presidents Iran has ever seen, Raisi rose to prominence in the Islamic Republic through the brutal judicial system where he was a member of the notorious ‘Panel of Death,’ sending thousands of political prisoners to the gallows. There’s a reason why he earned the moniker ‘Butcher of Tehran," said Jonathan Harounoff, Israel and Iran journalist and analyst.

Harounoff told Iran International news that Raisi has become synonymous with everything opponents to the Islamic Republic inside Iran and abroad despise.

"Widespread bureaucratic corruption, woeful economic mismanagement, sky-high inflation, high unemployment. Not to mention tight censorship and severe punishment or death for political dissent," said Harounoff.

Masih Alinejad 🏳️ on X: "“I think this is the only crash in history where everyone is worried if someone survived.”
“Happy World Helicopter Day!”
Iranian social media is flooded with jokes about Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter crash. This is how oppressed people fight back through humor." / X

Nioh Berg ♛ ✡︎ אסתר on X: "Iranians inside Iran are celebrating while watching live news on TV.
Everyone waiting for the final confirmation that Raisi is dead.
Incredible. (vid link)" / X

Shayan X on X: "⚡ BREAKING: Iranian diaspora all across the world are taking to the streets, dancing and celebrating the potential death of the puppet president of the Islamic Republic regime Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. This video belongs to London in front of Iran's occupied embassy. (vid link)" / X

"One particular joke that eventually got out of hand was that the helicopter pilot’s was actually a Mossad agent named Eli Copter - and Hamas’ main Telegram page went on to cite that as a fact."

Masih Alinejad 🏳️ on X: "I am so happy to see smiles on your faces. This is how the daughters of Minoo Majidi, who was killed by the Iranian regime during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, reacted to the news of Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter crash. ✌️✌️ (vid link)" / X

Raisi chopper crash sparks conspiracy theories of laser beam from space, Khamenei son, Mossad role - India Today - "Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash blamed on bad weather. However, it triggered conspiracy theories. If some saw the role of Israel's Mossad, others claimed it was a laser strike from space that killed Raisi, while still others blamed it on a battle of succession involving Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei's son."

Israel's hand? 'Revenge'? Iran President's fatal chopper crash prompts conspiracy theories
According to a report in The Economist, Raisi had a long list of enemies in Iran, including relative moderates he has marginalised to the fellow conservatives who think he has been an inept president.

It said that some Iranians believe that Raisi's enemies may have their exacted revenge. "It is not unreasonable to wonder if domestic foes conspired to kill him," the report said.
Israel?
he report said that Israeli spy group Mossad has a long history of killing enemies, including in Iran. In fact, Israel has assassinated several prominent nuclear scientists in Iran over the years.

However, it said that it is unlikely that Israel would go as far as to assassinate the country's president as it would trigger deadly consequences.

"But there are strong reasons to doubt Israel’s involvement. It has never gone so far as to assassinate a head of state, an unequivocal act of war that would invite a fierce Iranian response. It would be foolish to risk such consequences to kill Mr Raisi, a deeply unpopular politician who does not actually have the final say in many of Iran’s most important policy decisions," the report said.

I hadn't seen this posted, and I figured everyone in here is just filled with too much grief to post about it. A man before his time... after his time... well after our time... well after part of our time but during others time.

He did what every other Iranian President has... the bidding of the supreme religious leader of the nation. And in this, we can say he did a good job following that guy's orders. Women died, protestors were arrested (tortured?). But the President was steadfast in his defiance against western norms of women having a place in society. The idealized world of the strongly conservative Islamic faith which also thinks "Catholic birth control" isn't "natural", reminds us that it is still possible that woman (as well as other minorities like gays... if they existed in Iran) can be marginalized. It isn't a lost alt-right Christian Dominionist dream. It can be reality because it currently is reality in some places of the world. And these places are happy places because outward sadness is a crime.

And we can have that too, but we must have the will necessary to put forth protocols that tell women they can be anything they imagine... in the own mind... as long as they don't say "No."

So Iranian President we salute you in your death as you helped show America that maybe we can make it Great again, by showing us that we can have yesterday again tomorrow.

I'm gonna steal an old joke from Dennis Leary:

"I mean, Stevie Ray Vaughn President Raisi is dead, and we can't get Jon Bon Jovi Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on a helicopter?"
