Just found out that Trump is tapping Matt Gaetz to be AG. He OBVIOUSLY knows Gaetz is in legal trouble beforehand. With billionaire oligarchs having govt contracts and govt positions and now these other conflicts of interest...is this going to go down as the most corrupt ever?

Welcome to Russia.

Gaetz knows that as soon as Trump is in power, Trump will wave his magic pardon wand and Gaetz won't have any legal problems anymore.
Tom
DOJ already passed on Gaetz and the House ethics investigation goes away as soon as he’s out of the House.

What’s more interesting is whether recruiting from out of the House makes things hard on them because they don’t have too many votes to lose with such a slim majority.

That's true but point of order...

Since he will become the AG, they might as well keep all those case files because impeachment of public officials is their responsibility. Of course, they won't, nor would he be impeached precisely because the GOP controls everything. No checks and balances.

If you go back to the beginning maybe not the worse.

The democrat's Saint FDR tried to increase the number of Supreme Court judges so he could pack the court with judges that would support his New Deal agenda.

I heard Teapot Dome in high school.

Teapot Dome Scandal, in American history, scandal of the early 1920s surrounding the secret leasing of federal oil reserves by the secretary of the interior, Albert Bacon Fall. After U.S. Pres. Warren G. Harding transferred supervision of the naval oil-reserve lands from the navy to the Department of the Interior in 1921, Fall secretly granted to Harry F. Sinclair of the Mammoth Oil Company exclusive rights to the Teapot Dome (Wyoming) reserves (April 7, 1922). He granted similar rights to Edward L. Doheny of Pan American Petroleum Company for the Elk Hills and Buena Vista Hills reserves in California (1921–22).

From what I read in the 19th century collusion between militray leadership, business, and giovernmet was the way militray leaders built a retirement. It was not a secret.

There's no telling how bad things will get.

There won't be any more mugshots, because no member of the Trump administration (or any associated folks) will ever be arrested. Matt could bang a 12 year old on the Resolute Desk and nothing would be done. Except of course if she gets pregnant and tries to have an abortion.

So, the election is done. Can he be arrested now or is there some bullshit excuse why he can't be?

(We all know the answer).

I'm so much less worried about "corruption" financially than "corruption" of our Democracy. When a President demands the Senate allow him to appoint anyone he wants without any oversight... I worry about the later. In 2017, he was nominating angry military folks and outsiders (who were at least good at something). This time around, he is naming people that look like people who were bred to dissect our way of life and return us to a time that wasn't better.

So ... Matty Gaetz has quit Congress so he can be AG? Really? Or was it just to keep the report on his sex trafficking from being released?
If he fails to get confirmed, does he get his seat back? And if he does, will that report then be released?

What a fucking shitshow.

Gaetz is widely disliked by Republicans in the Senate, so I think his chance of being confirmed is far from assured. All of Trump's nominees will have to promise him favors to get the job, but he can always replace failed nominees with less despised toadies. There seems to be an endless supply of them.

I don't think there is any doubt that this administration will be more corrupt and incompetent than Trump's first one. He has pretty much admitted this publicly, but I don't think most people were listening to him or Harris. They had made up their minds during Biden's botched attempt to run for a second term.

You think there will be any kind of confirmation process? I've already seen that Rump might just make them all 'recess appointments' and ignore the Senate alltogether.

Yes. Yes it is.

That's what I suspect. He wouldn't have quit the house if he thought there was a chance he wouldn't be confirmed.

Given the potential imminent release of the ethics investigation he may have quit just on the chance that he would.
