January 6 Hearings Live

Donald Trump will fly to Florida hours before Biden inauguration, reports say | Donald Trump | The Guardian - "Outgoing president expected to use Air Force One to travel to Mar-a-Lago, where he intends to live"
It is unclear what exactly Trump intends to do next. It seems inevitable he will spend some of the weeks and months ahead closeted with his lawyers – and, as per his presidency, on the golf course. He faces a second impeachment trial in the Senate and a slew of other legal cases, federal and civil. As an ex-president he loses his immunity from prosecution.

Not if the neighbors have a say any say. And they do. Trump agreed not to live there more than 21 days a year.

“There’s absolutely no legal theory under which he can use that property as both a residence and a club,” said Glenn Zeitz, another nearby Palm Beach homeowner who has joined the fight against Trump and had previously tangled with him over Trump’s attempt to seize a private home to expand his Atlantic City casino. “Basically he’s playing a dead hand. He’s not going to intimidate or bluff people, because we’re going to be there.”

The current residency controversy tracks back to a deal Trump cut in 1993 when his finances were foundering and the cost of maintaining Mar-a-Lago was soaring into the multimillions each year. Under the agreement, club members are banned from spending more than 21 days a year in the club’s guest suites and cannot stay there for any longer than seven consecutive days. Before the arrangement was sealed, a Trump attorney assured the town council in a public meeting that his client would not live at Mar-a-Lago.

Documents obtained by The Post via a public records request suggest there may be gaps in Palm Beach’s enforcement of key provisions of the agreement that could affect Trump’s ability to live at the club. Each year, the club is required to report whether at least 50 percent of Mar-a-Lago’s members live or work in Palm Beach; that the club has fewer than 500 members; and that no one is using the guest suites more than 21 days a year. However, the town says it has no records of the reports for four of the past 20 years.

Trump has repeatedly attempted to change parts of his agreement. In 2018 he asked the town to waive a provision banning him from building a dock at the club, initially saying the Secret Service and local law enforcement officials needed the structure for his protection. The reasoning was later changed to say the dock was for the private use of the president and first lady Melania Trump. Neighbors feared that the dock would be used for rowdy booze cruises. Trump withdrew the dock request early this year — three days after a Washington Post report that unearthed the details of his 1993 agreement with the town.

I would personally enjoy seeing Trump living in a box under a bridge. At least I can imagine.

In Washington Trump’s staff are busy packing up. On Wednesday, a photographer for Reuters snapped the president’s trade adviser, Peter Navarro, carrying a large, framed photograph of one of Trump’s meetings with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping. Other items on their way out of the building included a stuffed pheasant and an Abraham Lincoln bust.

The removals and piles of boxes have prompted a rash of puns on Twitter, with several calling on the president to “stop the steal”.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does, Will he end up in a nice estate in a Moscow suburb?

He should be on the no-fly list before anybody.

Deconstructed: Rep. Pramila Jayapal on the Capitol Riot - "The congresswoman has since tested positive for Covid-19 after being locked down with unmasked Republicans."

As the Capitol attackers advanced through the Congress building, she thought that the House chamber was safe. But then Nancy Pelosi was evacuated, and a fellow Congressmember showed her a picture of the holder of zip-tie handcuffs in the Senate chamber. She was sure that she had to go. She was up in the gallery, and a mob was outside of it trying to break through its door. Fortunately some cops arrived and caught those would-be assailants.
But there weren’t enough officers to escort them to safety, so they were told to remove the pins that identified them as members and make their way to a congressional hearing room through the tunnels. Jayapal and freshman Rep. Mondaire Jones, D.-N.Y., contemplated the decision: Leave the pin on, and be discovered by the mob. Take the pin off, and be attacked by police who might not realize they’re members of Congress. They left the pins on.
Then she had to make it down some stairs while having a bad knee. A fellow Congressmember helped her, and then
They made it to the hearing room, and as Jayapal opened the door, it immediately dawned on her: She had tested negative for the coronavirus that morning. “I’m going to get Covid,” she forecast accurately.

Pence calls VP-elect Kamala Harris to offer congratulations - better late than never, and I think that it shows that Trump has become very politically weak.
While Trump has remained largely behind closed doors, without his Twitter bullhorn and fuming since his loss, Pence has been stepping up and fulfilling many of the ceremonial duties of the presidency.

On Thursday, Pence received a briefing at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington from the FBI and other agencies on inauguration security and stopped by to thank White House phone operators, giving them a framed letter of appreciation. Later, he greeted members of the National Guard now protecting the Capitol building from further attack.

...
Pence was also the one who coordinated with lawmakers and the D.C. National Guard while the Capitol was under siege and he was in hiding. And last Friday, he called the family of slain Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries in the attack.

Pence’s call to his successor is a continuation of the traditional show of comity between outgoing and incoming leaders that Trump has flouted.

Sasse statement: "Every American needs to understand what the Department of Justice has just made public: Investigators have strong evidence to suggest that some of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President. These men weren’t drunks who got rowdy — they were terrorists attacking this country’s constitutionally-mandated transfer of power. They failed, but they came dangerously close to starting a bloody constitutional crisis. They must be prosecuted to the fullest extent"

Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Twitter: "We're nearly a year into this pandemic, more than 3,300 people are dying EVERY DAY from COVID-19, and yet we still have Republicans treating it like a joke — not only refusing to wear a mask but mocking those of us who do. The issue w this is that donations are not done by months, they’re measured by election cycles.

It’s pretty normal for a member to not get a max-out check in the first 6 mos. This announcement doesn’t mean much bc they can still max out to ppl who undermined the election in July

The way you can tell if a company actually means it is if they say they aren’t giving to any members PERIOD or at bare minimum this *cycle.*

Reminder you can also elect members who don’t take corporate money at all, & are funded by small dollar donations from everyday people 😉

Any members who voted to overturn the election* but also some have indicated they may suspend political donations in general, at least for the time being

Tucker Carlson Mocks AOC’s Riot Fear: ‘Sandy’s Heart Is Still Beating Fast!’
Fox News host Tucker Carlson dismissively mocked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Thursday night for describing her experience surviving an insurrectionist riot, belittling the congresswoman’s claims that she “narrowly escaped death” by derisively referring to her as “Sandy.”
Then he repeated his false assessment of the Capitol attack.
“It was not an act of racism. It was not an insurrection. It wasn’t an armed invasion by a brigade of dangerous white supremacists. It wasn’t. Those are lies,” Carlson exclaimed, even though dozens of suspected white supremacists on the FBI’s terror watch list were reportedly at the riot.

...
Claiming that Democrats are going to use the insurrection to crack down on civil liberties—especially when it comes to conservatives—Tucker then accused the progressive lawmaker of hypocrisy for saying some Capitol Police officers were “heroic.”

“Watch her new position, her revised position on defunding the police,” he sneered before playing her recent Instagram video about her riot experience.

Besides praising “Black and brown officers that were confronting white supremacists,” Ocasio-Cortez also described the storming of the Capitol as a “harrowing” experience in which she “narrowly escaped death.” Carlson, meanwhile, couldn’t help himself and immediately trivialized the New York lawmaker’s claims.

“Narrowly escaped death,” Carlson sarcastically declared. “When the most harrowing thing you've done in life is pass freshman sociology at Boston University, every day is a brand new drama! Sandy’s heart is still beating fast!”

“But she likes the cops now despite the fact they're white supremacists,” he smirked. “What a difference a day makes.”

Tucker Carlson faces backlash after mocking Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's fears during Capitol riot | Salon.com - "Fox's Tucker Carlson has moved on to mocking lawmakers for fears of a mob howling for blood on their corridors"

Describing how she narrowly escaped death,
"I had a pretty traumatizing event happen to me," Ocasio-Cortez described. "And I do not know if I can even disclose the full details of that event, due to security concerns. But I can tell you that I had a very close encounter where I thought I was going to die."

Capitol rioters included highly trained ex-military and cops
As President Donald Trump’s supporters massed outside the Capitol last week and sang the national anthem, a line of men wearing olive-drab helmets and body armor trudged purposefully up the marble stairs in a single-file line, each man holding the jacket collar of the one ahead.

The formation, known as “Ranger File,” is standard operating procedure for a combat team that is “stacking up” to breach a building — instantly recognizable to any U.S. soldier or Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a chilling sign that many at the vanguard of the mob that stormed the seat of American democracy either had military training or were trained by those who did.
"In many cases, those who stormed the Capitol appeared to employ tactics, body armor and technology such as two-way radio headsets that were similar to those of the very police they were confronting."
A close examination of the group marching up the steps to help breach the Capitol shows they wore military-style patches that read “MILITIA” and “OATHKEEPER.” Others were wearing patches and insignias representing far-right militant groups, including the Proud Boys, the Three Percenters and various self-styled state militias.

The Oath Keepers, which claims to count thousands of current and former law enforcement officials and military veterans as members, have become fixtures at protests and counter-protests across the country, often heavily armed with semi-automatic carbines and tactical shotguns.

Capitol Police intelligence report warned three days before attack that ‘Congress itself’ could be targeted - The Washington Post
“Supporters of the current president see January 6, 2021, as the last opportunity to overturn the results of the presidential election,” according to the memo, portions of which were obtained by The Washington Post. “This sense of desperation and disappointment may lead to more of an incentive to become violent. Unlike previous post-election protests, the targets of the pro-Trump supporters are not necessarily the counter-protesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself is the target on the 6th.”

...
A day before the attack, an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit warning that some extremists were preparing to travel to Washington and threatening to commit violence and “war.” And dozens of people on a terrorist watch list were in D.C. the day of the riot, including many suspected white supremacists, as The Post previously reported.

He’s pulling out all the stops. His supporters will likely try something violent at the Capitol to stop the vote. They’re calling for violence on the internet to stop the steal. Mark my words, someone will be dead tomorrow. Probably some Democratic representatives.

Looking at my previous post Just before the coup, and I see I was fortunately wrong about Democratic lawmakers being killed. But it was close.

It wasn't just Democratic lawmakers.

"Hang Mike Pence!" was a thing, while a gallows was being erected.

A solid Christian Trump supporter(Christian, Conservative, Republican, in that order!) was in great danger.

Tom
Due to Trump's orders to the mob.
