Mass shooting at Madden tournament in Florida

Gosh. I wonder if the shooter will turn out to be a *clicks on link* yup, it's a white guy.

So one immigrant kills one woman, and you conservolibertarians tell us that is valid reason to blame all immigrants, but dozens of mass murderers per year can't be pinned on white people in general?

I wonder what could account for that blatant double standard?

I'm sure I will think of it.

The councilman who represents the district in which the shooting happened said he came to the scene as soon as he heard the terrible news.

"Jacksonville cannot run away from this problem. It’s time for Jacksonville to take up the gun violence issue,” said Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Gaffney. “We have to pray hard. We have to come together to come up with a real solution.”

Gaffney said he’s frustrated and has been talking with the mayor and sheriff about Friday night’s shooting outside Raines High School that left a 19-year-old dead.

“My solution is we really need to talk about God. I’m asking the faith-based community to step up," Gaffney said.

 Finally, some intelligent, well thought out strategy! What a great solution! We really do need to talk about God. It's so...on point, you know? I mean, wtf? Why does God hate us? Why didn't God stop this? WHERE THE FUCK IS GOD!!!???

Oh, sorry. Was that not the "solution"?

It sucks that there’s so much violence in video games. Let’s talk about that to move the conversation away from guns.

Thoughts and prayers!

It's not that he's white.

He's from Baltimore (a northerner) and felt so out of place that he went in a place called Chicago Pizza. Are you seeing the pattern yet?

The superior southern twist that Florida brought to the table (pun intended) was an instant reminder that he didn't belong. He didn't fit in. Low self esteem. Oh, and that laughing and fun and carrying on must of been psychologically isolating.

Stay tuned for part two, where we give a point by point account on how to blame the victims, and why they are to blame.

Note the tournament. Madden. That's an American football (not soccer!) game, not a shoot-em-up.

Guy was mad about losing.

Shooter must not have been black or illegal... or reported often on Fox News.

First the Michael Brown store owner blamed as victim, now fast writes further about blaming victims in this case. What's with all the victim blaming?

And is it always wrong to blame a victim, at least partly, for what happens in a given scenario? These things are often not pure good vs evil right?

When I was a kid in the 50s 60s guns were easy to get. Mail Order no questions asked. It tightened up a bit after JFK was killed.

Guns today are much harder to get, yet we have a rising tide of massacres. Few in the media raise the question of a cultural basis. We are awash in violence 24/ in TV, movies, video games, and music. I watched a TV video game competition. You rack up points by killing. Killing is now entertainment.

Reaping what is sown seems to apply.

We are currently talking about a pair of victims that are now dead. One has to be a bit skeptical of blaming them for their own murders unless there is some level of violent action that can be understood making their murder turn into self defensive killing.

...at least partly, for what happens in a given scenario? These things are often not pure good vs evil right?
This would be a wonderful discussion to have in a Moral Principles thread, not about a pair of people that were murdered while playing video games.

So one immigrant kills one woman,
1. He was an illegal, not just an immigrant, which means he had no right to be in the US no matter what. 2
2. Are you forgetting Kate Steinle? You know, the woman that would be alive if not for San Francisco policy of protecting illegals from deportation.

and you conservolibertarians tell us that is valid reason to blame all immigrants, but dozens of mass murderers per year can't be pinned on white people in general?
You are the only one who wants to pin crime on a racial group in general. Being an illegal is not a race. It's a conscious choice to break immigration laws. Big difference.
And nobody is even saying all illegals are responsible for murders committed by other illegals. All we are saying is that we need better enforcement of our immigration laws. If you aren't authorized to be here, you should not be here.

But if you want to talk race, blacks are 5-6 times more likely to commit homicide than whites. Why are you so quick to pin murders committed by whites on all white people but not any other race or group?

I wonder what could account for that blatant double standard?
You are the one with the double standard, as you never talk murders committed by anybody but white men.

I'm sure I will think of it.
If you could think, I am sure you would.

He was influencing the outcome of real football games. Jehovah doesn't care much for e-sports, he is an old-school kind of guy.

Yup! Agreed 100%. There is no violence in media in Europe (or Canada). They've been playing a washed down version of Pac-Man as their most violent video game in Japan for a few decades now.

I was predicting, not planning--although I might have come across that way.

Part three is where race gets dragged into it

Germany is pretty strict about that because they do not recognize video games as "art" unlike say movies or TV. Violent games are put on the "index" of "youth-endangering media" (Index der jugendgefähdendenen Medien) and the games cannot be advertised or sold to anyone under 18. Some like Wolftenstein are even outright banned. That often leads to censored localized versions.

Violence censorship starts around the 5 min mark. The first five minutes were about censorship of depictions of Nazis, even though such depictions are fine in movies.

I do not see how removing the "suicide bomber" character from C&C: Generals is an "improvement" though, like the host implies.

Your sarcastic comment is actually somewhat true, but only as it applies to televised media, not necessarily video games. I think that the EU has a different rating system though, I need to look it up to be sure.

One of the things I noticed watching TV in the EU (mostly Germany) is that they don't censor a lot of the sex/love scenes that the US would completely cut out or heavily censor, but it's just the opposite for violence.

I'm not implying any causation, but the norms are reversed. People in the EU tend to be a lot more chill about PDAs, and sex in general too, which may be reflected, or a reflection on, this difference.
