Mass shooting in Brooklyn subway station

A gunman wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest is on the run in Brooklyn after shooting at least five people on a packed subway train in Sunset Park during rush hour on Tuesday. Shortly before 8.30am, the gunman is believed to have thrown a smoke bomb into a southbound R train at the 25th Street Station in Brooklyn, and started shooting as the doors of the train closed. Five people were shot including one who is now in a serious condition but fire department sources say 13 in total were injured. It is unclear if he shot from the 25th Street station platform, or if he was also on the train, but the wounded passengers fell out of the train carriage at 36th Street, terrifying others waiting there to board, according to The New York Daily News.

It doesn't matter. Shootings within 30 minute walk of where I live have become almost routine. In my building we periodcaly here gunshots. Last summer I herd aboy 30 rounds at night near my building, and called it in to 911.

A recent drive buy shooting involved three teens in a stolen car. Shot a woman in a car.

Yes, everyone who is paying attention to reality, rather than being distracted by the media focus on drama.

Civil order has improved dramatically since the 1970s (which appears to be the last time you paid attention to, well, anything), and the fact that it's not even close to perfect, and that there are outlets like the Daily Fail trying to persuade people like you that your bizarre nostalgia trips are justified, doesn't actually change reality from what it is, to what you want it to be.

But of course, you simply ignore anything that doesn't fit your preferred narrative.

Where did that come from?

It's a spike. Spikes are sudden increases, usually temporally and geographically limited. They are like the recent floods in some east Australian states not being indicative of a national, long-term increase in rain, although it is fair to predict that Australia's annual rainfall in 2022 will turn out to be higher than in the previous year - or the coming one.

What you need to do is to quantify to what extent that spike decreased civil order in the US, and for that you need to integrate the data concerning the spike into the bigger dataset of violent crimes covering the entire US. I'm afraid neither the Daily Mail nor any other purveyor of sensationalistic reports will be able to help you out with that.

Are there any leads on finding the gunman?​

The authorities have named a suspect: Frank R. James, 62, who has addresses in Philadelphia and Wisconsin. He was originally identified as a person of interest, a classification given when investigators believe the individual may have information related to a crime, but Mr. Adams said on Wednesday morning that Mr. James had been made a suspect.

The investigation was hampered because security cameras at the station were turned off, but other signs led investigators to Mr. James. Two law enforcement officials said a credit card with Mr. James’s name on it had been found at the scene of the shooting, as had a key to a U-Haul van that Mr. James had rented.

Mr. James rented the van in Philadelphia sometime over the past several days, the police said. The abandoned van was found by the police late Tuesday afternoon about five blocks from the Kings Highway station, where the police say the gunman boarded the train.


Mr. James was described by neighbors as quiet and gruff. He appeared to have posted dozens of videos on YouTube, where he riffed off news events in long, vitriolic rants. He blamed Black women for violence among Black people and pointed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as evidence that whites are genocidal.

There are too many nut jobs in the US who have guns. Meanwhile, here in Georgia, our Republican governor just signed into law a bill that allows most anyone to carry concealed without a background check. Yup. That's the solution to this problem. We need more people walking around with concealed guns. /s

Well, Black men do a lot of mass shootings - see nearly every mass shooting in Chicago. But their marksmanship is off. When a White guy does it, there’s more dead than wounded. When it’s a Black guy, mostly wounded but few dead.
