Massive Demonstrations Happening In Iran

Weird, won't wear the hijab but will wear a mask outside.
The hijab is a symbol of oppression. The mask is only a symbol of oppression to death cultists.
I dunno. If you wear a mask outside it’s also a symbol of stupidity.
I can relate, I think the same about your arguments.
I mean, it’s been known from the start that outside transmission is negligible to zero. So wearing one outside just shows ignorance.

You're exaggerating a little. It is not zero. Getting covid indoors is about 19 times greater than getting it outdoors. However, might be wise to wear a mask if someone is immunity compromised, and they are attending outdoor situations when you are in close contact with the same people for a prolonged period of time (like a football game for example.)

I still chuckle at the numbskulls wearing the mask when driving their car on their own. Maybe it's an LA thang.

I still see the occasional bicycle rider wearing a mask, that makes me LOL.

It may indicate ignorance. It may indicate a high level of risk aversion. Or it simply may indicate that the person is only going to be outside for a small amount of time before they enter a much higher risk situation.

I see it up here too.

I chuckle when I'm out for a walk and I see someone coming the other way with their mask down and then as they approach me they put their mask up for the 2 seconds that we will pass by each other several feet apart.

wearing one outside just shows ignorance.

... if you're an habitual indoor type, maybe.
I wear an N95 mask doing every outside task for which I used to wear a dust mask. That includes brush-cutting, road grading (and other tractor work), stall cleaning and even riding when conditions are dusty.
Maybe the only benefit I have derived from COVID is learning how much more effective the N95 masks are in those situations.

Hypothetically, suppose you're a Protestant living in a country where half the people are Protestant and half Catholic, and your country is overrun by the army of its more powerful neighbor. Suppose the enemy ruler (a Protestant) announces that all the Catholics in your country are to wear rosary beads visibly outside their clothes. Suppose your country's king (also a Protestant) responds by announcing that everyone is to wear rosary beads visibly outside his clothes. Would you think those are equal acts of oppression? If some citizen refuses to wear rosary beads, would you think that's an equal act of resistance to oppression regardless of whether he's a Protestant or a Catholic?

A few comments. I wasn't viewing the wearing of masks as a sign of oppression. I assumed the mask wearing was voluntary but you know what they say about assumptions. I was also thinking the video was maybe older and not related to current events in Iran, an attempt at making an internet meme going viral such is the way the internet works. But on the plus side, if the video is current, these girls are being smart wearing face coverings making it more difficult to be identified and facing retribution.

Did they have an Uber magnet?

Hmm, you might have a point there.

Or laziness. Most times I'm outside with a mask on it's because it's been so unburdensome that I forgot I was wearing it and then maybe 3 hours later someone asks.

Except it hasn't. The risk outside is something like 1/20th the risk inside, not zero. However, outside generally means more distance, itself a big protective factor.

You're chuckling at your own ignorance here.

I've often had a mask on while driving alone--I don't expect it to protect me from anything in that situation. What you are missing is that we simply didn't remove it after leaving a store. For light wear the respirator masks lifespan is limited by the elastic. Taking it off each time would at least cut their life in half, not to mention that I wear glasses--but you can't don or remove a respirator mask with glasses on. All in all it means that for a short time I'm simply leaving it on.

I actually learned it some years back before I ever heard the term "N95". I used to consider dust masks basically worthless. I decided to try the half-face respirators at Home Depot--wow, that's what dust masks supposedly offered but never provided. I can laugh at crab grass with it on.

This. In the pre-vaccine days I wore an N95 even while hiking if there was anyone around--and more than once while descending I completely forgot about it.

Seen elsewhere...
Evin Prison is near Tehran, Iran holds many political prisoners and foreign nationals there.

With the past three weeks of protest the prison population has greatly increased.

Now the prison is on fire and there are sounds of gunfire heard. A crowd has gathered outside the prison shouting "Death to Khamemi". Nobody has come out of the prison, and there are reports of mortar fire being directed from outside the prison to the inside.

This twitter link has some pretty dramatic video, apparently from across the street.

The protests are not stopping.

No shit. "Dissidents" who inflame "people's sentiments" is "people who are at the breaking point of rejecting the thumb of religion, in favor of the will of the people."

The gloves are coming off and aits about fucking time.
