I don't want to link to a YouTube video of the ad because I don't want to give Republicans more hits, but I just saw an ad for the governor's race here in Illinois.

The ad argues that the Democratic candidate is a rich guy who did underhanded things to avoid paying taxes.

Now it's probably not a good idea to accept Republican truth claims without examining everything carefully, but even if it's true, so what? Are we supposed to believe that fewer rich people will dodge taxes if we elect Republicans? I mean, I am also pissed off about rich people not paying their fair share in taxes, but why would Republicans argue that rich people not paying taxes is a bad thing? I thought rich people not paying taxes was the most desirable possible outcome.

Sounds like bait.

Like they're trying to get Democrats to defend a rich guy who cheats on his taxes so that when Trump is charged with fraud and tax evasion they can call Dems hypocrites.

Pfft. Illinois politics. Four out of the governors from there ended up in prison.

And so what if someone takes the bait?

Even if you think Pritzker is a horrible person for not paying his fair share of taxes, how is voting Republican supposed to fix that? As far as Republicans are concerned, the elites should not be paying taxes at all.

Pritzker is genuinely weak on abortion.

Maybe for the next ad, they could say "Pritzker is weak on protecting a woman's right to choose, therefore you should vote for Republicans, who will make abortion illegal, even in cases of rape and incest!!!!!

The rich are a world apart from most people. Their concerns are not the same concerns that most people have.

These are probably the reasons that one entire political party and one half of the other one exist solely to cater to the rich and to make sure that their concerns are foremost on the national agenda.
