Nazi accused of beating wife

Fair enough. On the other hand, the accusation that he beat his wife, without conclusive evidence, would not provide any good reason not to hire him for a job as a programmer that he can do from his home (leaving aside his . Generally, and as a rough approximation, I would say that two key points would be:

1. It is rational and morally acceptable to take into consideration the available information - including the inconclusive evidence that a person did something immoral -, in order to assess matters such as the risks in case one hires that person, how he will perform on a job, the potential dangers to coworkers, etc.
2. It is not morally acceptable to act with the goal of punishing a person for engaging in wrongful behavior X, if one does not have conclusive evidence that the person in question engaged in wrongful behavior X. This includes firing or refraining from hiring a person as a means of such punishment.

...did something immoral...

being a Nazi is a little more than past tense and usually involves future nefarious plans.

other than that, I agree with risk assessments which is what I've been saying for a long time here.

As I mentioned, I was talking about the accusation that he beat his wife in the first part, and the part about "something immoral" was a general assessment, not about him in particular. Now I see there was an omission in the part in which I was trying to reduce the risk of a reply that would fail to see that, by further stressing that I was leaving aside his racists views and advocacy and related matters and insisting that I was only talking about the domestic abuse accusation (I also made later a general assessment, but it was generalized from that part on the case): only the "leaving aside" was posted, I see, so something was missing. But still, the part that was left was not necessary for the post to be clear. It was just meant to be a preemptive defense against replies that would misconstrue my post.

That said, I do agree about the future nefarious plans and the immorality of some of his views. His racist views and plans do provide a good reason (defeasible under some circumstances, but in general) not to hire him for any job, regardless of whether they would affect how he performs, just on account on his immoral behavior.

Is the wife a Nazi? If so, then he was just punching a Nazi and it's no big deal, right?

Nazi Richard Spencer is accused by his wife of physical abuse on more than one occasion. I know he's a Nazi but he has rights to due process. So, let me be the first to say that while he is guilty of being a Nazi, he might possibly be not guilty before a court of law of abusing his wife. He also might have done it even if found not guilty. And I certainly wouldn't let him babysit my son. I have the freedom to make personal decisions based on risks. But again, before a court of law, he has the right to be innocent until proven guilty.

Thank you.

If she was also a Nazi, then how can he possibly be guilty? I suppose if she can prove she wasn't a Nazi, she may have a case.

If she is a Nazi, he still may be innocent or guilty. Who knows. In that case, I would also not let her babysit my son.
