Now the race warriors are coming for Oscars. Apparently now we need affirmative action for Oscars since not enough blacks are nominated. Again, my perenial counterexample - why not affirmative action for NBA players?
And of course the race baiter in chief, Al Sharpton is one of the loudest voices, joined by the likes of Spike Lee (of course!) and Will Smith's wife (they both donated money to racist Louis Farrakhan's march last year).
Al Sharpton Calls for Oscars Boycott: "We Are Supporting an Industry That Has Locked Us Out"

So what are the oh-so deserving works that have been snubbed? Straight Outta Compton has been mentioned even though it got a screenplay nod. Perhaps the actors weren't among the 5 best of the year and neither was the director? No, it must be racism ...

And what about the Oscars only two years ago when 12 Years a Slave won best picture and best adapted screenplay and Lupita Nyong'o won best supporting actress for the same movie?

What ridiculousness!

Technically, this did come after the claim that BLM protesters are "terrorists".

M&PC thread?

The Oscars have usually been a disappointment, for a long long time. Blacks are upset, how do you think people felt when Peter Sellers lost out to a guy who couldn't fucking sing?

In general, best acting awards have a tendency to be awarded for performances in aggregate to people, ever since Bette Davis won in '35. Denzel Washington won for Training Day instead of Malcom X (of whom Al Pacino won for Scent of a Woman ). So this sort of disappointment really shouldn't be expected for actors of all races.

Whether Straight Outta Compton deserved any acting nominations is questionable, but it definitely did not deserve a best picture or director nomination. Its a cowardly and dishonest whitewash of a group of misogynistic, homophobic, racist violent criminals who made fame and fortune encouraging criminal gang violence by young black men.

Here is a link to a review of the film by one of the women violently assaulted by Dr. Dre.

"When I was sitting there in the theater, and the movie’s timeline skipped by my attack without a glance, I was like, “Uhhh, what happened?” Like many of the women that knew and worked with N.W.A., I found myself a casualty of Straight Outta Compton’s revisionist history."

I actually enjoyed their music when I lived in LA in the late 80's at the height of their fame, but the film is gutless fiction selling itself as a biography.

Even if some of the acting performances are Oscar worthy, great performances tend to get overlooked for Oscars when they occur in such mediocre pandering films.

So, I heard that Creed was a really good movie and the director (who is black) deserving of a nod. But of course any franchise movie is going to be very hard to nominate for anything.

There needs to a new premiere award show that isn't a circle jerk. I guess that is why there is still room for the other shows.

Also maybe awards for best physical stunts, best CGI, best child actor (the kid from Looper would have won - he was awesome!), best casting director.

Stallone is up for Best Supporting Actor, and yes, I have heard it is good.

Let's move this to MP&C

Whenever people complain about a shortlist leaving off 'so many worthy people/performances/works' I want to present the shortlist and say

Who, specifically, deserves to be on this shortlist, and who, specifically, will you remove from the shortlist to make room for that person?

Pinkett-Smith talked a big talk but let's see her answer that question. For example, the 2016 best actor nominees:

Bryan Cranston, Trumbo
Matt Damon, The Martian
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl

This happens all the time with the identity politics fanatics. Not a single woman? Not a single person of colour? Not a single <insert identity grouping here>.

I wonder if she were a mere white girl getting whipped, would she have won an Oscar? no chance

Now the race warriors are coming for Oscars. !

And you are paying attention to such drivel, why?

How else is he going to convince himself that the darkies are coming for him?

And hollywood hasn't covered that yet?

It is nothing until you were black and lived on the Moon, so stuff it.

you have to address every single issue, to claim it's ridiculous, otherwise an actual issue might slip through. If one of those gets taken seriously by the media they'll be rioting in the streets!

The far Left rejects any criticism of "blacks are so oppressed" narrative and they love to ridicule anybody who dares challenge it.
But other than infantile ridicule they have nothing, as can be seen here.

This is more about politics than actual movies.

It's been all over the news. Even NPR covered it.

And I am disgusted by affirmative action in general. Especially here where you have rather small samples (4x5 acting nominations) you are bound to have certain groups underrepresented some years, overrepresented in others. To call for boycotts when your group does not get any nominations is incredibly stupid as is basically calling for racial quotas.

And also, if racial parity is important here, why is it not important in the NBA? 67% of NBA should be non-hispanic whites, or else NBA is racist, right?

This isn't Affirmative Action.

That's some petty stupid shit to waste emotions on. Are you as upset that the NHL is white as well?
