No Kings Oct 18. Who's going?

I've been to a few and normally would go to this one but unfortunately it came when I have some guests in town and we're going to a college football game that's been in the works for weeks.

Please everyone attend and shout "fuck trump" just for me!

There is one in my small town, but it already started and because of my chronic pain in my knees, and feet, there is no way I could walk more than a block or two without severe pain. I'm sure some older people will attend as not all of us suffer from chronic pain, but I certainly hope the younger generations will do their thing like we did when we were young.

Plus I'm not even ready to leave the house. I do wonder why they planned this at 10:30 AM instead of in the afternoon. They had one in June, which I didn't know about and I read that about 250 attended, not too bad for a city of about 25K.

Regardless, I read that this is expected to be the biggest protest that the US has ever had. Hope everyone stays safe.

An instruction I heard yesterday: If someone becomes disruptive, those around that person are to sit down and point at them.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Nothing is planned within striking distance of here AFAIK but I expect some impromptu uprising, the local AR-brandishing idiots cruising the mains in their lifted F350 - the usual disgusting display of rumpsucking.

Does anyone here have expectations regarding the outcome(s) of this protest?
It’s expected to be massive - will that make any difference?
Trump’s goons can be expected to try to provoke violence; will they succeed?
Is there any immediate objective?
I am very skeptical that this will do anything but accelerate the fascist takeover. If they get a whiff of unpleasant consequences, they’re NOT going to retreat into the shadows, they will attack America with renewed vigor under the protection of the insurrection act.
WHAT THEN?
Are y’all prepared to arm up?
Right now I’m pinning my hopes on Ronald McDonald.

Our local police posted a helpful warning to the protestors not to carry anything that might be perceived as a weapon. The no-no list included umbrellas and canes. Your right to bear arms is in good hands with the Republicans, as long as you're a Republican.

I just found a video of our local protest. If I had known they were just standing on the sidewalk waving signs and flags, I might have gone. Plus, almost all of the protesters were older white women, with a few white men, despite my town being black majority. I didn't see anyone who looked young. Some of the women had canes or walkers and at least one was in a wheel chair. So, boomers are still the ones protesting. Hope there are some younger folks in the other protests, and maybe I didn't see the younger ones, but I was glad to see my generation was still up for the non violent protests like we had way back in the day.

However on the local discussion board FB page, which I should never visit if I want to remain sane, many of the posters were saying nasty things about the protesters, including calling Democrats violent and sheep. They sure have that backwards. If anything Dems have always been more like cats and I think we all know how hard it is to herd cats.

MSNBC is showing the protests in several cities, including NY, Philly and Chicago. They are all very peaceful. People seem to be having fun and while there are some. younger people in attendance, there are also lots of older white women. The Mayor of Chicago is speaking right now. The Chicago protest is a lot more racially and age diverse. Good to see that.

I also had to have a laugh at some of the creative signs.

Looks like a huge rally in NYC, where I am. Woulda been there except old age says no way.

In my little town the crowd was big, but the demographic skewed way too far toward the elderly. Hey kids, you better start reclaiming your country from the Trump crowd. Fight like hell or you won't -- no -- act locally and speak out while you still can.

If the people in these rallies across the country are skewed elderly, that is the end of the republic. “A republic, if you can keep it.” — Benjamin Franklin.

I see a lot of young people at the rallies in big cities.

I mentioned it was the same in my town. I also watched the protests around the country and while there were some younger people in some of the larger cities, it appeared as if a good percentage were older adults, including a lot of the speakers, like Bernie and Bill Nye for example. Maybe it's because we boomers started protesting when we were young, so we are not afraid to speak our minds. We know that if enough people protest, it usually helps change things. I agree the Zoomers need to get out and fight and not expect their grandparents to do it for them. Fight the powers that be!

Sadly enough, if you just turned 21, you were 7 years old when Trump started his Birther nonsense, and you were 11 going on 12 when he took his escalator ride and started railing against Mexicans. As you started middle school, he was Pres. You don't have a memory sense of how vicious and precedent-setting Trump's obscene and derogatory mouth is in our politics. He's infantile, but almost no one in the public sphere is describing how awful his speech is, and how sadistic his mind is. Jimmy Kimmel speaks more honesty about our situation than most of our politicians.
