Nudism is on the rise in France and in many other western nations: https://www.independent.co.uk/trave...-naturists-ffn-events-explained-a8461366.html

Nudism is Freedom

Islam is also on the rise, and many other people with such conservative ideology have been flowing into the west, ironically ushered in by well meaning liberals. There are also plenty of Muslims who don't carry much of the conservative baggage tied up into what most think of "Islam" but they get the stereotypes attached to them. Nudists also have a lot of stereotypes about them that don't apply to many of them.

I once witnessed a debate between a Muslim and Nudist, and it was amazing how much each had wrongly presumed about the other.

Do you think these two forces will eventually clash? Or will they oddly ally, both arguing that clothing choice, be that a burka or being naked, should be up to the person wearing or not wearing it?

Nudism underpins every religion on the planet.

Dirka! Dirka! Dirka!

I'm pretty sure that anyone who'd want a woman to wear a burka would be against a woman being nude, since "women's freedom of choice" isn't high on their list of important things to care about except as a fake talking point.

Also, having been to nude beaches, the vast majority of people who want to be nude in public are the type of people who really should put some clothes on. I'm not trying to body shame here, but their bodies are kind of shameful and they should look into covering them in embarrassment.

I also note that the instinctual "eww yuck" effect many of us have towards seeing out of shape nudists, isn't so different from the "eww yuck" effect many conservatives have towards homosexuality or trans. Its something we should simply try to get over.

Nudism is just fine. Islam (and xtianity) is not. I lived in Germany for a few years. There, nudism was acceptable in most places, and often compulsory in saunas! A far cry from the repressed nature of us Brits and you Merkins ;-)

I was also a participant in a Spencer Tunick installation in Dublin, Ireland in 2008. Gawd, the Irish Sea is cold.

Is that anything like the Polar Bear Dip in Canada? Its a crazy machismo thing where a bunch of guys run naked into the icy lake in the middle of the winter. I participated in it once decades ago. I am not proud. lol

Tunick is an installation artist photographer. His speciality is massive groups of naked people.

I'm somewhere in this group on Dublin Harbour...

Obesity is also on the rise in many western nations, and I think that's clashing with nudism much more than Islam.

Until Muslims start showing up, allahu-akhbaring everything up.
Gang of Muslims storm nudist pool in Germany yelling 'Allahu Akbar' and threatening to 'exterminate' women for being 'sluts'
Since Daily Mail has a bad reputation around here (while Daily Kos for some reason does not - weird), here is the local news article in German.
Junge Männer bedrohen Gäste am FKK-Strand
and often compulsory in saunas!
Which are coed.

No, it’s not. That’s the number one problem wth nudism.

Spencer Tunick is famous for photographs using a large number of nude people, although generally little of their private bits are actually exposed.

Yeah. I've been known to define "indecent exposure" as 300 pounds in a bikini.

That being said, I don't believe society should dictate what one covers up. (And the only reason I think they should dictate what's not covered is things like the burka are mostly tools of repression. I have no problem with people voluntarily wearing them, I just have big doubts about how voluntary it is.)

(Note: Sanitary issues are a different matter--while I think it should be legal to walk around au naturel in any public space I have no problem with laws against a bare bum on a public seat. I would have no problem with nudist towels {although I wouldn't say it must be a towel} being mandated by law.)

As a resident of the sub-tropics, I find it hard to understand why someone in France or Germany would want to walk around nude.

In my part of the world, it makes no sense to wear clothes for about nine months of the year, unless you plan to leave the house - at which point skin cancer becomes a concern.

As far as I can tell, being nude outdoors is either going to risk melanoma, (or at the very least, an uncomfortable sunburn); Or is going to risk hypothermia. There are very few climates where it makes sense to be nude outdoors for any significant fraction of the year.

A lot of nudists don't want to be nude ALL the time. They just want the freedom to be nude when they want to be nude. Having been to a nudist resort, I can tell you personally that is is an incredible sense of freedom, and the sun actually feels amazing on your naked body, so long as you limit the time of exposure to it.

The biggest myth about nudism is that it is inherently sexual. It isn't.

If you are not going to leave the house you could go nude 12 months out of the year no matter the climate. :)

Or 400 lbs in a speedo.
Seriously. Those silly Frenchies do not want to see me in a speedo. :)

I generally don't; So I generally do. But the winter months it gets a bit chilly even around here, and clothes save on heating bills.
