‘I would do it again’: Suspect accused of pummeling NYC Jewish man shows no remorse

NY Post said:
Waseem Awawdeh, 23, was held on $10,000 bail in the Thursday attack, in which he is accused of beating Joseph Borgen, 29, with crutches and punching, kicking and pepper-spraying him.
“If I could do it again, I would do it again,” he told one of his jailers, according to a prosecutor at Awawdeh’s Saturday arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court. “I have no problem doing it again.”
[...]
The Midtown attack was a hate crime, the Manhattan assistant district attorney told Paek, adding Awawdeh called Borgen a “dirty Jew” and said, “F–k Israel, Hamas is going to kill all of you.”

$10k bail was a joke, and it was quickly raised by Waseem's pro-Hamas buddies.

Awawdeh, who was previously arrested six times within a six month period, was charged with assault as a hate crime, gang assault, menacing, aggravated assault as a hate crime and criminal possession of a hate crime.
On Sunday, horrifying footage circulated in which the freshly released Awawdeh is seen celebrating. He is being carried on the shoulders of his supporters, who are yelling “Free Palestine!”
The man taking the video also can be heard calling Awawdeh his “hero.”

I am sure AOC, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar were ecstatic as well!

There was a judge, right?

The man was arrested and charged with crimes, right?

Decades of Israeli brutality and oppression have had many effects.

Usually that kind of stuff does not lead to peace.

Put him in jail, throw away the key. Or next time, people will get killed.

He was arrested and quickly released, due to Albany's bail deform law.

Decades of Israeli brutality and oppression have had many effects.
Usually that kind of stuff does not lead to peace.

Is there anything Palestinians do that you will not try to justify?

Been charged, likely be found guilty of a bunch of stuff, presuming he doesn’t plea out.

Bail is BS as it lets people with money avoid incarceration. A person likely can be held without bail, but this crime might not raise to such a standard.

But I’m glad you were able to use the group attack of a person to get a The Gang rage boner going.

Saying there are reasons bad things happen is not justifying anything.

Why do you ignore the root cause?

So Derec...what's your point? Seems to be yet another 'look at those dirty Muslim's' thread...or what?

Yeah, NY has some issues with bail and crime. But is this about that? There has been lots of non-Muslim attacks on Jewish people in NY in the last couple years. Did you post on that? You certainly didn't offer a balance of a few cases and what the various bails were set at...

Grafton E. Thomas invaded a Jewish home on Dec 2019, stabbed 5 people and one eventually died. Did you post about him and his case?

From Jan 2020:
https://forward.com/news/437905/new-york-bail-reform-antisemitic-hate-crimes/
Amid a spike in hate crimes in New York City, many Jews are worried that a new “no bail” law might make their neighborhoods more dangerous. They are calling on politicians to reverse the policy — and lawmakers are listening.

The new law, which went into effect Jan. 1, bars judges from setting bail on misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies, even when those charges are listed as hate crimes.
<snip>
On the fifth night of Hanukkah in December, Tiffany Harris slapped three women in quick succession in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, a neighborhood with a large Hasidic population. It was one of at least eight anti-Semitic incidents in the city over the holiday.

“After she said ‘F you Jews,’ she rattled off a bunch of other incoherent stuff,” Dalia Shusterman, one of the alleged victims, told the Forward a week after the incident. “She obviously had some mental issues.”

No one was seriously injured, and police quickly arrested Harris, whose lawyer said she likely has an as-yet undiagnosed psychiatric disorder. But in anticipation of the new cash bail rules soon going into effect, the judge who saw her released her shortly after.

A day later, Harris allegedly punched another person in Brooklyn. After she was arrested and released for that incident, she was arrested a third time for allegedly skipping a meeting with a social worker.
Now Ms. Harris' attacks were more mild mannered, but she twice got off with no bail in rapid succession...

What the fuck do AOC, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have to do with this event?

Please note, I'm not bending over backwards to "defend" The Squad, nor am I tacitly supporting the actions of young Waseem Awawdeh, who, at least from this limited information, sounds to me like a fucking shithead who needs to be held accountable for his dumb and violent actions.

Just asking...What the fuck do AOC, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have to do with this event?

According to Derec, The Gang has everything to do with anything that is bad in the world. The Gang hates all things good and want to make Derec, and all other do-gooders, suffer.

I find it interesting that Rep. Greene doesn't get anywhere near the coverage from Derec that The Gang get. And she could literally be crazy. But she doesn't elicit the same sort of rage boner that The Gang gets Derec.

Pretty much anyone who doesn't suck Israeli ass, is dirty and responsible for anything bad happening to Jews anywhere...in Derec World.

For the record, AOC has commented, but doubt its enough for Derec...

"There is no room for anti-semitism in the movement for Palestinian liberation. Our critique is of Israel and their human rights abuses. This is not an excuse for anti-semitic hate crimes," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

The congresswoman joined her fellow New York Democrats, many of whom took to social media to criticize the racist attacks, including one particular incident that took place in New York City's Times Square this week.

Absolutely nothing. But right-wing nuts attempt to smear them in any way possible, soooo, the fact that they criticize the government of Israel, they get smeared as being anti-Semitic, and because they show concern for Palestinian people they are of course pro-Muslim terrorist. Because of course all Jews everywhere are in complete agreement with Netanyahu, and all Palestinians are terrorists, especially the 5 year old ones.

Why should he be treated any differently than anyone else committing the same crimes in that jurisdiction? Because he is a Muslim? Because of his public comments made after his release? I think it is more likely than not that those comments will help lead to his conviction, as well as harsher treatment in sentencing if he is convicted. Judges don't normally take that kind of thing lightly.

I am sure AOC, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar were ecstatic as well!

Imagine that, another thing that you assumed, and which you were quite wrong about.

Given the local notoriety of this case, I wonder if Derec will push for a change in venue for the trial.

If you are referring to me saying that the George Floyd trials should be moved outside of Minneapolis metro area, that is hardly comparable. Minneapolis saw widespread and deadly rioting that lasted for months. #BLM insurrectionists have also occupied the area around Chicago and 38th and are in fact still occupying it. So it's in no way comparable, but thanks for another of your trademark non-sequiturs.

That said, do you really think moving the trial outside of the Five Boroughs would help your guy? I think it would be exactly the opposite. He is much more likely to get serious prison time if tried in the burbs or upstate.

Why should he be treated any differently than anyone else committing the same crimes in that jurisdiction? Because he is a Muslim?
If anything, him being Muslim works in his favor, since the Left is committed to pretending that antisemitism is a "white supremacy" problem.
Just look at the drastic difference in the treatment MTG is getting vs. the blah response Ilhan Omar's anti-Semitic statements received from Dem leadership.

Because of his public comments made after his release? I think it is more likely than not that those comments will help lead to his conviction, as well as harsher treatment in sentencing if he is convicted. Judges don't normally take that kind of thing lightly.
Hopefully, but I have little confidence in NYC prosecutors or judges.

Imagine that, another thing that you assumed, and which you were quite wrong about.

You do not know how they feel, and so you can't say I am "quite wrong" about this. However, given their anti-Israel rhetoric I still think they feel pretty good about Palestinians attacking pro-Israel Jews.

Absolutely nothing.
Nothing, except for their continuous anti-Israel rhetoric and attempts to blame attacks on Jews in NYC and elsewhere on "white supremacy".

the fact that they criticize the government of Israel,
They do more than that. They condemn Israel for defending itself from Palestinian aggression and are not condemning Hamas rockets at all.

they get smeared as being anti-Semitic,
It's not a smear if it's true.
D4DKCdJW0AIdWHD.jpg

and because they show concern for Palestinian people they are of course pro-Muslim terrorist.
That's a very inaccurate characterization. They oppose Israel defending itself from Hamas rockets but do not condemn Hamas shooting thousands of rockets at Israeli civilians.

Because of course all Jews everywhere are in complete agreement with Netanyahu,
Israeli politics are complicated, but I would hope vast majority of them support the right of Israel to self defense against Palestinian aggressions.
and all Palestinians are terrorists,
Hamas, Islamic Jihad, PFLP, DFLP, and countless other splitter factions definitely are terrorists. Even parts of Fatah are terrorists. The by far most popular Fatah politician is Marwan Barghouti, who is serving quintuple life for murders he ordered while head of Tanzim, one of two Fatah terrorist wings.
especially the 5 year old ones.

What about 5 years olds in Israel? What about Gazan 5 year olds hit by 100s of Hamas rockets that fall inside the Strip?

Besides, Hamas is recruiting their terrorists young.

Since he is being charged with a hate crime, this is yet another incorrect assumption on your part.

Hopefully, but I have little confidence in NYC prosecutors or judges.

Considering your track record, no one should have any confidence in what you assume regarding NYC prosecutors or judges.

Imagine that, another thing that you assumed, and which you were quite wrong about.

I can say you are quite wrong very easily, as the following information was posted in this thread before I posted my response:

Not only can I now say that you were 100% wrong about AOC, I can also say funinspace was 100% correct about you. Not that either of those things were really in dispute before he posted.

I couldn't find my car keys for a solid twenty minutes yesterday. Was that The Squad's fault as well? When will their reign of tyranny ever end?
