Pelosi: Impeachment Is Moving Forward

He was unhinged today, stating obvious falsehoods.

His problem is he wants to wake up in the morning and have this all be gone. That's his expectation because he's always had his way but it's just not going to happen. The longer it goes on the more unhinged he will become, his inner circle will want to be protecting their own asses and I don't blame them, his having to deal with that will make things worse and worse.

Schiff and Pelosi need to keep up the pressure.

Fuck! So the SD IG pretty much did a Devin Nunes. The Exec Branch is going for the ‘You can’t indict is all play’. This is dreadfully disturbing. The GOP might be going for the single-party plan knowing the alternative is politcal suicide. So they’ll just point the gun at the Dems.

SNL cold open should be The Emperor’s new clothes.

I can’t get anything out of that story other than Linick intentionally wasting the House Committees time?

That is the initial observation. I suppose the other one is "Guys, this is the shit they are peddling right now." Linick was appointed originally by W and promoted by Obama, so seems to be long-term career minded.

Ukraine’s recently departed president, Petro Poroshenko, says that Joe Biden never asked him to open or close any criminal cases, adding to the list of Ukrainian officials saying they saw him do nothing improper involving his son.
Speaking out to the news media for the first time on the matter, Poroshenko rebutted claims made by President Donald Trump and his allies that Biden, as U.S. vice president, sought the ouster of the country’s prosecutor general in 2016 to stop an investigation of a natural gas company where Hunter Biden sat on the board.
“The former vice president, at least in personal conversations, didn’t raise any requests to open or close any concrete cases,” Poroshenko said in a statement to Bloomberg News in response to questions. Poroshenko made similar comments to CNN and the Los Angeles Times in recent days.
....

More Trumpolini lies and right wing conspiracy nonsense debunked, this time by Poroshenko.

The Truth: There was clearly a conflict of interest for Hunter Biden to sit on the board.
The Lie: Hunter Biden committed acts of fraud.

Biden was there to make the company look better on the International stage due to the issues the owner had with the fraud used to build the company. It was a ruse and Biden shouldn't have been involved. However, this is a long long way from VP Biden stopped the prosecution of his son.

There's a weird pattern in all of this, again. Trump has done it before, and his supporters have given him a pass for it. He tends to fixate on these issues of corruption that always have a germ of truth to them, but are compounded by additional claims that are usually false. There were real reasons to be suspicious about the Clinton Foundation, but not because they were assassinating people. There's something to be said about the fact that Hunter Biden rolled into the Ukraine fresh out of rehab and got a job making $50k a month, but this story about the prosecutor doesn't seem to have legs. And in every case, the ridiculous hypocrisy of Trump pointing out these instances of corruption goes right over Republican heads, who see him as a principled outsider looking out for the little guy.

And, more importantly, completely irrelevant to the offense of Trump using the threat of American reprisals in order to coerce a foreign government into doing far more than just investigating his opponent on something that was already thoroughly investigated and dismissed.

As was recently revealed by the Reuters reporter being shut down repeatedly by Trump, Trump can't answer why he wanted a newly elected President to dance for his money, but the answer is, of course, obvious; he doesn't. What he wants--and what the knowing responses from Zelensky clearly signal--is for the President to manufacture dirt on Biden.

Iow, to make shit up. There simply is no other reason for a President to ask another country's President to do the work of the world's largest intelligence community.

He does it because it works. 60% of Republicans polled by Monmouth doesn't believe Trump asked the Ukrainian President to investigate Biden. (cited this in a recent OP)

I'm thinking that Trump has the SD IG's held hostage somewhere.

My sense is that restricting this investigation to the Ukraine issue will be a mistake. Trump will never be removed from office. There is zero chance of that happening, so no part of the impeachment strategy should have anything to do with that eventuality. But the other, more important functions of the investigation are to get as much shit on record that Trump has done, get it on record when Republicans defend him for it, and make all that information as digestible as possible to the public. It could serve a valuable purpose as a bargaining chip for legislation and budget battles, getting Trump and his Senate full of sycophants to concede on issues like ICE funding, the border wall, and who knows what else, when faced with the prospect of being publicly implicated in the many instances of impeachable behavior Trump has engaged in. There's plenty to choose from, and no good reason to make the whole thing about this phone call.

The inquiry can't linger. The public will only support impeachment for a short period of time. Otherwise it gains the appearance of a fishing expedition. Pelosi goes back to Clinton, so she knows this. The transcripts with the other leaders are on the "other" server, which is a conduit to them. There is also, the whole allegedly actual transcript of the Ukraine conversation in July and the documents related to withholding the funding of Ukraine.

President Trump called on China on Thursday to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter in relation to the younger Biden’s business dealings during the tenure of the former vice president.

Trump’s comments came as Democrats accelerated an impeachment inquiry that was sparked by a whistleblower’s complaint that Trump had pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a similar investigation.

As Trump spoke to reporters at the White House, Kurt D. Volker, who resigned last week as Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, was being interviewed behind closed doors in front of three House committees. Volker was among the officials mentioned by name in the whistleblower’s complaint.

In a television interview that aired earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused her Republican colleagues of being loyal to Trump and not the Constitution.

I'm having a hard time getting my computer to paste the correct link, but the above comes from a WaPo article. I saw Trump say these things earlier today.

President Trump on Thursday publicly called on China to investigate a political rival, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., in an extraordinary presidential request to a foreign country for help that could benefit him in the 2020 election.

“China should start an investigation into the Bidens,” Mr. Trump said Thursday as he left the White House to travel to Florida where he was expected to announce an executive order on Medicare.

The call for China to investigate Mr. Biden and his son Hunter’s business dealings there came as the first witness appeared on Capitol Hill to be interviewed by House investigators as part of an impeachment inquiry into the president’s request in a phone call for help from President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

Mr. Trump has defended his conversation with Mr. Zelensky as “perfect” even after a reconstructed transcript of the call was released that showed him seeking help from Ukraine in investigating the Bidens. And he doubled down on his request on Thursday.

Trump's defense is that he is Chief Executive and Head of State combined with no explicitly worded quid pro quo. So he will argue that Bidens needed to be investigated by the executive branch. Republican strategy is always go negative hard and fast. Fox news is covering the Biden investigation.

My problem with the defense are (1) the myriad conflicts of interest that could have been dealt with more neutrally and (2) the timing of Trump's investigation of Biden coincide with the Biden campaign. I suspect there is a lot more here such as quid pro quo and coded messages and even secret money but those things require proof. Points 1 and 2 are true on the face of it, no additional proof needed.

lol Coded messages? Trump can't even remember what day it is half the time. He's not speaking in code. He barely speaks in English.

This is Coded Messages for Dummies. Between the two el Presidentes, they use the word "friends" 7 times. Very unusual, statistically significant even I bet.

Statistically significant? Compared to what, a negative control conversation?

Compared to other transcripts of phone conversations between a President and another President, if we had them.

Well, a legitimate President.
