Philippines ends Military Cooperation Deal with USA

This is already shaping up to be a rough decade for American imperialism, and I love it

Well said comrade. Lets you and I defect and seek asylum in Russia, Cuba, or China, or North Korea, or Venezuela...

Russia... my god. Do you understand what year it is right now?

But yes, any of those other places would be fine and good to be the major power in the world today, and far far better than the USA, Germany, Japan, or Great Britain having that role.

At least you are honest, I give you that. Do you understand Russia today as it is? IMO the worse punishment for Snowden is to leave him in Russia. He made pleas to come back, pathetic.

As the saying goes, you are free to express your feelings with your feet. If you live in the USA and think China or Russia should rule he word then by all means go there and work for them. Don't sit here with what we do have and say we suck and other places are better.

No, I am not a Trump supporter. I am an American who thinks warts and all the USA has made significant progress. True of western civilization in general. China pulled itself out of misery with western technology and investment, and stealing intellectual property. Regionally China is acting like Imperial Japan before WWII.

Start a thread if you want to debate China, Russia vs USA as world powers.

I would rather die, no thank you. But I do want to move to China someday and am learning Mandarin in order to do so. My only point in bringing up Russia was to use it as an illustration of why you don't know what you're talking about (Russia is not socialist nor communist and hasn't been for decades).

You better go soon. I know a woman who spent decades in China working on relocations for foreign workers. When she reached a certain age she was kicked out, too old. It was also hard for her to get decent medical care.

Become part of the great collective.

I can see why you do not want to have a critical debate on China. A lot to evaluate. Minority suppression, no free speech or media. Hong Kong suppression.

Arbitrarily redrawing international maritime boundaries to take fish and mineral resources. Taking control of Tibet after resources were found. If that is not imperialism I do not know what is. But then what do I know.

It's not going to happen unless you're of Chinese origin. Otherwise, at best you can get a business visa if you're legitimately doing business there. Most work visas are gone by now. Permanent residence is basically unheard of.

Work visas are less common yes, but still a thing. I was offered one a couple of months ago. I suppose I may have been given special consideration for being very slightly genetically Chinese (1/8th). Not sure. Nothing was said about it explicitly.

You will not debate China, that says it all.

There is the American fasbation with Oreint as if it represenrs somehng else.

I expect if you like in developed areas itwill be no different thean here.

Go to work, eat, drink, party, go to movies, go out for fast food. MacDonald;s, Starbucks, and Dominoes are established.

There are drugs, crime, and prostitution.

If you have some 18th 19th century view of China I expect you will be disappointed. I doubt people are quoting Mao's Little Red Book anymore. It is an oligarchy. At the top business is controlled by the wealthy. The new upwardly mobile Chinese middle class is no less aggressive and materialistic than we are.

Here in Seattle since the 90s wealthy Chinese have been buying property and securing a means to a green card as a hedge again instability. Same for Vancouver BC and the west coast in general.

I live on the edge of the International District. Chinatown, Little Saigon, and Japanese Town. You do not see many people wanting to go back to China.

It is easy to get to China. Go online and search for jobs in China. If hired American companies will take carwe of everything and provide language training.

In the 90s I was talking to Microsoft about working in China. I declined, could not bring myself to go over there considering what I saw technology transfer was doing over here.

The only thing China had to offer is cheap regimented labor in vast manufacturing complexes. They contributed nothing to modern technology.

Try searching on 'jobs in China' and 'Chinese immigration and residence'. I doubt you can just show up and look for a job.

It really does. The reason is because I don't believe starting a debate from a position of having to defend something is a productive way to spend my time. I know that China is a modern communist state that cares about its people and is setting an example for the world in numerous ways; what is there to start a thread about? "Here is why you're wrong about Uyghurs, Coronavirus, Tienanmen Square, Hong Kong, Mao, and communism in general"? That's not my job. If you have a claim to make about China, make it and provide your sources and make damn sure they're good ones. I will do the same to rebut what I see as false, but I'm not here to accept the prevailing negativity about China as my starting point.

Work visas in China are not immigrant visas! You reach retirement, you're going home.

Both ignorance and blind ideology are bliss. It is why a lot of people are willfully ignorant and followers of a blind ideology without question. They don't have to think critically.

China is unable to completely control and sanitize what is getting out. There is a free speech and free press movement. All is not well in China.

Productive yes, but how are they doing it? Western investment and technogy and stealing intellectual property was the foundation.

If you want to argue the intellectual property issue the Chinese government freely acknowledges the practice. It is not a secret.

Ted Koppel interviewed a Chinese auto executive who said if we can't copy a transmission from an American car we will get get it somewhere else.

They ghave gone part way to a true market driven economy, what is holding China back is limiting it. If they opened up to where wages, currency, and prices truly floated it would enlarge the middle class increasing its own market. It is that reming belif in a past communist ideology that is hurting them.

There has also been well documented cases of near slave like labor. Both Apple and Microsoft acknowledged it when confronted with evince some of their products are produced by such conditions.

You call the USA imperialist, yet you will not discuss China's questionable actions. You said Russia, China, NK, Cuba or Venezuela would be better global powers.

Russia's population is reportedly shrinking. I think they would be glad to have someone from the west who is healthy and who disposes the USA.

I guess he could try Hong Kong.

Hong Kong money has been bailing out to the USA and Canada since the Brutish handover. Doesn't look good for HK. Given the open resistance seen globally China can never let HK go without submission.

Local media has reported a new condo building I can see from my roff has already been bought out primarily by Chinese.

Then there is Kushner who was offering green cards to Chinese investors in his projects. A number of ways to buy your way to legal US residence.

Dutarte is an idiot if this is true. He's trying to cosy up with the Chinese?

Don't be fooled. It isn't like Filipinos like the Chinese anymore than they like Americans (not at all). Filipinos are used to dealing with bully States (ever since Spain invaded) and right now China is looking to have the brighter future.

It isn't like Filipinos like the Chinese anymore than they like Americans (not at all).

Does not seem to be true:

The United States was consistently ranked as one of the Philippines' favorite nations in the world, with 90% of Filipinos viewing the U.S. and 91% viewing Americans favorably in 2002, 90% of Filipinos viewing U.S. influence positively in 2011, 85% of Filipinos viewing the U.S. and Americans favorably in 2013, and 92% of Filipinos viewing the U.S. favorably in 2015, and 94% having confidence in former United States president Barack Obama, making the Philippines the most pro-American country in the world.

The Chinese don't care about his abysmal human rights record. We do.

Which is why he said China would be preferable because China does' not interfere in our country.

A Pilipino over here told me the PI wants to separate themselves from the USA, meaning they want a different form of government. Of course a sample of 1.

It seems more like Dutarte didn't like Obuma, and who could blame him.

Human rights? Drug pushers shouldn't have human rights, for they care little about the human rights of the drug lords victims.

Me thinks you do protest too much, you're trying to conceal your true identity. You're a drug pusher. Since you have no rights you have no right to defend yourself from this charge, an accusation is enough. <Bang!>
