Interesting story

This is an unexpected take on the story from a transgender reporter:

She says that in her opinion the transgender woman is actually a cross-dressing man instead.

I wonder what kind of flame war this will start.

I hope it starts lots of flames. A transgender person should know better than to try and dictate to people what gender they should identify as.

How about instead of calling it the mens and womens locker room you call it the penis or vagina room? :p

That way you don't have to identify yourself as male of female, but as a person with a vagina or penis...

This kind of despicable anti-Ken doll bigotry has no place in civilized discourse. You, sir, should be ashamed of yourself.

The gym should be allowed to create whatever kind of bathroom/lockeroom arrangement it wants. They should be able to have co-ed, "whatever gender you feel like", or "you must have a vagina" rule. Kicking the complaining women out seems based on the charge that she was engaging in what could be called harassment of the transgender person. OTOH, maybe she just wanted to inform other women that their was a person with a penis (for which "man" is an objectively valid scientific term, regardless of gender identification) in the locker room designated for "women". The lengths to which she went and the show she made of it would determine whether losing her membership was reasonable or an over-reaction to a woman who should be allowed to feel uncomfortable showing and changing with a stranger with male genitalia.
Is the transgender person an intolerant bigot for feeling less comfortable in the men's locker room than the women's? What does she have against men?
Why is a women feeling uncomfortable changing around a biological male any more bigoted?

In high schools across America guys are wondering if they can go into the girls locker room when the cheerleaders are showering if they put on women's clothes.

How to balance conflicting desires?

One individual is physically male yet present the self as female. The other is female and doesn't want to share a locker room with a physical male.

Of course, the SJW crowd will insist the second person is in the wrong, that if the first person says the first person is female, that everyone else should accept that judgment.

OTOH, that still leaves the second person sharing a changing room with someone who is physically male.

As far as the assertion that transgender person being only a cisgender transvestite, there are two points.

One is that even if true that it is impolitic to mention it.

The other is that this difference is not well hashed out in the minds of the general public.

I thought it was hilarious.

Yeah, in general I favor support for the transgendered but when it comes to dressing rooms it seems to me that it should go on anatomy, not how they present to the world.

Yeah, for new construction this is the real answer. Make/female/co-ed. I don't think it's reasonable to require this to be retrofit, though.

The problem with that is when you have the same anatomy folks trolling for fresh meat amongst people who don't swing in that direction.

I'm not sure if I'm making an error in my thinking or not, but aren't most bathrooms and locker rooms already sensitive to transgenders? If you're a man dressed as a women, or if you're a man who thinks you're a woman (or ever how that is supposed to be articulated), then you are not discriminated against--unless the bathroom is segregated by gender. What I'm getting at is that if the door clearly reads boys/men, then isn't that about their sex? If you have a vagina but identify as a male, then their gender has no bearing on which room to use. It would be different if rooms were segregated by gender. Of course, I may have all this backwards ... I never seem to keep this stuff straight.

I'm a Planet Fitness member. I've seen a few men in the locker room who may have been women at some point. It's not always easy to tell. As far as I know, there's been no complaints.

I need a quick 101:

True or false:

Sex options: man or woman
Gender options: male or female

If that's right and a male identifies as a female, then that person is a female man until such time that person has a sex change at which point the person becomes a female woman. Right?
