Police Misconduct Catch All Thread

I think you're talking shit. Anyone is dangerous with a kitchen knife

Behave yourself. That woman was more at risk of having a heart attack than stabbing a police officer.
I think you're trolling this one, but you're doing a poor job of it.

Incident in Times Square, NY.

Lopez was finally stopped by officers after the spree in which she also stabbed a 68-year-old man in the stomach. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Footage showed officers hitting Lopez, from Queens, with a taser as she waved the blades at them, but it was not enough to stop her running at them. Lopez was then hit with gunfire as two shots rang out, she immediately fell to the ground where officers handcuffed her and started administering first aid.

You really need to see the video. It was pretty ridiculous to shoot the woman.

What's rediculous about it? She needed to be neutralised. Anyone is deadly with kitchen knives. Getting close to her was not happening. There's not many other options available. What do you think they should have done?

Really? There are several officers standing around and they couldn't "neutralize" a portly middle aged woman with obvious mental problems?
She'd already killed someone and stabbed another.

Police are there to contain the situation while at the same time having a right to not die. And why is the life of a mentally ill person more important than the person she already killed???

Come on, this is an easy one.
Yes, life takes precedence over death.

I don't mind the police shooting this woman in this instance. I would mind it if two or three of the officers empties their entire clips into her.

Is this because the 200 pound officer that shot the woman is black and the victim not so black? Is that what is going on here?

You look at the person who was shot, an overweight, short, middle aged woman who was not exactly nimble on her feet, you’re telling me that the several, burly, trained police officers could not overpower her?

I’ve had him on ignore for years. Surprised he still receives any attention tbh.

You dirty woke moral purist. 😡

Why should any officer willingly risk their lives in that situation?
It's. Their. Fucking. Job.

Why should Ambulance drivers work on a Saturday night? Why should firefighters risk their lives containing a burning building? This really is a fucking moronic argument you are making.

I also find it very difficult yo believe New York cops aren't equipped with slash proof vest, tasers, chemical spray and are given training on how to subdue a middle aged woman. If that's true, then NYP standards have taken a fucking nose dive since I was there last in 2018.

Taking dumb and avoidable risks? Hell no.

Sure, they'll put themselves in harms way if there's no other option. That is part of the job. But if there's no need to be brave, there's no need to be brave. Doesn't the lady have any responsibility in this? She could have not threatened the cops with knives. How about that scenario?

You don't seem to have much respect for our uniformed members of society.

Firefighters have specialist equipment just for that situation. They still don't take dumb and avoidable risks. Getting killed on the job is extraordinary for firefighters.

I don't understand why you think working on a Saturday is comparable to a close encounter with a kitchen knife?

I will chose to believe that they would have used those if there was an opportunity to do so.

You already acknowledge she has mental problems. Why should any officer willingly risk their lives in that situation?
It shouldn't be that risky if they received adequate training. These situations almost never seem to involve any human to human communication. Yelling, barking, screaming.

Police Officer: I tried escalating the situation and things got worse!

And there is a difference between thinking a shooting isn't necessary verses the shooting being criminal. Better Practices are always worth investigating.

If you don't think Saturday night is the most dangerous time for an Ambo I strongly recommend you actually talk to one. They can be in more danger than fucking cops for fucks sake. So as a wise man once said;
You don't seem to have much respect for our uniformed members of society.

As English is a second language for you, it seems you don't understand the meaning of the word "brave". In order to be "brave" you have to take risks that will put you in danger. The woman was so low risk, bravery was not required. It would have taken her two business days to reach the officer that shot her. She looked more likely to trip over her own feet and faceplant than do any damage to any of the officers on the scene. If this was a young, well built male, then yes, things are different.

The woman was obviously having an mental breakdown. She wasn't in her right mind. It's a huge problem here in the USA.

A knife-wielding man was shot dead by police on the Brooklyn Bridge after telling cops he had a bomb, officials said. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 3.30am on Friday to reports of an individual walking on the beams of the landmark structure. Police climbed up to try and coax him down. The man was said to have been carrying a knife and told officers: 'I want to die, I want you to kill me, I have a bomb.'
