I love the way they say the technique used to take Surat down was “standard arrest control”, as though that made everything OK.
If that's not true, then clearly the officer should be in deep shit for using non-standard and violent techniques when arresting people.
But if it IS true, then clearly the ENTIRE DEPARTMENT should be in deep shit for making violent techniques their standard when arresting people.
Hiding behind standard operating procedure simply doesn't work - if SOP is immoral, then that
might allow the discredited Nuremberg defence to be available to individual cops, but only at the cost of exposing the entire department as immoral.
"Why did you commit an unnecessary and unprovoked assault on a citizen?"
