9 times out of 10 political correctness is the declaration that the label makes the item.

When you remove a politically incorrect term for a situation you just cause another term to arise to take it's place, you don't solve the original issue.

Now, in a few cases there was no real reason for the initial word but most of the time there is.

What you all are talking about isn't the "9 times out of 10" I mentioned. You're talking about the other 1 time out of 10, the ones that get on the news, or in the papers because they're so egregious, or stupid, or both - those aren't "political correctness", they're "political correctness gone mad". The 9 times out of 10 are the little acts of political correctness in your daily life, like not calling your black neighbour ni**er, even though you really want to, or not bullying that guy at work because of his sexual preferences, however much the thought of butt sex makes you sick. You might not think of these as acts of "political correctness", but they are, and you do them all the time without thinking about it. Without this level of "political correctness", there would be no society. Strive against the 1 out of 10 cases where somebody's trying to impose extreme constraints on speech or behaviour, but those 9 out of 10, ordinary, daily cases of simply not being a dick? We need that level of "political correctness" simply to survive.

But what are we going to fo about it? We can't legislate away intolerance without simultaneously legislating away our freedom. That is by definition an intolerant society. So bad.
