They're really overhyping the danger level of cassowaries for this article. I can easily imagine a human community managing to set up some mutually beneficial nesting arrangements with them. Yes, they're dangerous when provoked, but fairly docile and predictable creatures normally, and those who live in proximity to an animal for a long time tend to get to know their habits quite well.

Certain types love having certain animals as pets because they LOVE nature as long as it exists in animals that are not human.

They detest nature as it turns up in humanoid persons.

As they should, most of the time. Alpha males (hairy or not) are (can be) assholes.

I was raised by cattlemen. I would say the use of "pet" is some distance beyond "domesticated." But science is usually some distance beyond journalists....
