Prostitution and the Bible

Don't do what these barbarians do... do our barbaric things instead is the gist of what the biblical commandments say.
FTFY.
Aww, you made it worse.

You know the phrase..
..all together now..

..."don't fix what ain't broken"

😏
Mate, the Christian ideology to which you subscribe has been broken for a thousand years, and cannot be repaired. It doesn't need to be fixed, it needs to be thrown out on the scrapheap.

As per atheist v theist debate on the matter, It's your world-view versus mine...

..and so I ain't budging old forum chum:
it ain't broken!

( can have at least one like too? ..
..anybody? 😢)

It's personal for me. I am related on my mother's side to the fig tree your boy murdered. It's literally in my family tree. We don't take it lightly, and we don't forgive because we're (obviously) not Christians. To us, MT 21 and MK 11 are crime reports. The perp is right there in the text and the authorities of the time did not act. The fact that he was convicted on unrelated charges does not help. The fact that you folks say he's still around leads me to hope that justice can still be served. We're just hoping for a jury that will consider MT and MK to be unimpeachable witnesses. I will never give up until my ancestor gets justice. All he wanted to do was to provide good juicy figs in season.

Although this may not console you much, but remember... your fig tree ancestor still lives in you.

All he wanted to do was to provide good juicy figs in season.

Take heart, he still provided for those in need. He fuelled the fires that kept people warm.

Technically he just prayed for it to happen, around the time when the tree withered. Correlation does not prove causation. I pray for a lot of things, and they don't always happen.

Irrelevant comment on the alleged fig tree murder:

Bishop Spong thinks the events of "Palm Sunday" took place during the season of Sukkot, rather than Passover. If so, the weird parable of the out-of-season fig tree may be a cryptic hint to the correct chronology.

Ezekiel 23 uses talk of prostitution as an insult and verse 20 goes on to say: (NIRV)

"There she had longed for her lovers. Their private parts seemed as big as those of donkeys. And their flow of semen appeared to be as much as that of horses."
BTW Ezekiel 23 goes on for 49 verses about young prostitutes that represent Samaria and Jerusalem:

I like what God has to say here...
e.g.
"In that land they allowed their breasts to be touched. They permitted their virgin breasts to be kissed"
"When she was young, men had sex with her. They kissed her virgin breasts"
"They stripped her naked"
"They went to bed with her. They had sex with her. They made her impure when they had sex with her. After they did it, she became sick of them. So she turned away from them. She acted like a prostitute who had no shame at all. She openly showed her naked body"
"That was when you allowed your breasts to be kissed. And you permitted your young breasts to be touched"

It could be turned into a sexy film...

Has anyone put warning labels on this book so innocent children don't accidentally read the porn and violence?

BTW this NIRV translation is also used in the NIRV Bible for Kids...
It contains "Complete text of the New International Reader's Version, written at a third-grade reading level just for developing readers".
On the other hand there's the KJV version:
"For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses."

Oops -- I see it was in your post #132.
But anyway, wouldn't you want to be a fly on the wall when some li'l reader at Holy Fire Primary School brings that up to the teacher and asks what an issue is?

"Teacher, it says issue."
"Yes, I see."
"Well, what is a 'horse issue'?"
"Well, Bethany, do your parents get any magazines to the house?"
"My mom gets Guideposts."
"Guideposts...good! Now, does your mom ever say that each of those Guideposts is an issue?"
"I guess so. Yes."
"Well, this is nothing like that. Go sit down and pray."

The Hebrew is, if anything, rather more explicit. Our ancient cultural forebears were at times prudish, but seldom bashful.

The NIRV is aimed towards children and I think "private parts" is good enough rather than having to say "penis" (it is basically a synonym). BTW I've made AI generated songs like this that use the NIRV text:

Steam approved the initial versions for general audiences but I made more and now Steam is saying they're "adult only sexual content" even though it uses the term "private parts". But I tried telling them the text is in NIRV Bibles aimed at children.
