Protests against Trump in all 50 states

Protests against a despot who cares only about himself, are futile.
Ask a N Korean protester if you can find one alive.
Yes. This talk of influencing a POTUS and the other voted-in riffraff via public protests is now a quaint idea. I guess no one else recalls all the large protests and riots in Trump's first term. It didn't change a damn thing then, and it won't change anything now.

As you said, protests are only effective if POTUS cares about the country. Not only does Trump not give the slightest shit about the country, he has SCOTUS to back him up on whatever he feels like doing.

Gas and gun down protesters?

Sure, because Trump can make any decision he wants as long as he calls it an "official act."
It may not be what a protest accomplishes in and of itself but the message it sends if we don't, that we are cowed, will walk through life with our eyes cast down, take and be grateful for what we are allowed. Fuck that.

Repug approval rating is dropping fast.
Not as fast nor nearly as far as the inept Dems have.

It's early, but from what I've been able to glean, Democratic leadership is doubling down on what lost them this past election.

I am not rooting for the Dems to fail; quite the contrary, but at this time I just don't see it. There are millions of people who, like me, simply don't feel that the Dems represent them anymore. To a significant degree, I believe that leadership holds too many voters in open contempt.

Trump wouldn't piss on his supporters if they were on fire, but he doesn't say that. He's convinced them that he understands them.

Meanwhile, far leftist idealogues have latched onto the party and are getting its full support. Therefore, I won't cast another vote nor give another dime to them until they right the ship by coming up with a way to counter the Trump*/GOP.

It sucks because I have no one to vote for. There are no legitimate third parties in the U.S.

*HOW THE FUCK DID THEY LOSE TO THIS ROTTEN, REEKING, ORANGE PIECE OF SHIT??? You want a bottom line answer to why Democratic leadership is so fucking awful?

Look no further.
TWICE, I know. And to see Harris go into that typical politician mode of nonanswers so as to not offend any potential voter infuriated me. It's the fucking people behind the scene that tells politicians over and over this is the best winning strategy, that it should be enough to overcome the offensive candidate the other side has put up. Well it's not. Not even after the abhorrent actions of Jan 6th, it's not. And they'll keep on doing this, putting another neutered candidate forward and expecting young people to come out and vote.

But I won't do nothing.

Protests do work when there are at least 3.5% of citizens attending and they are done frequently. I still remember the ones I attended where we screamed "Old enough to die but not old enough to vote" The voting age, for better or worse, was lowered to 18 due to our protests. But, we protested constantly and we had huge numbers joining us. The ones I attended included soldiers who had just returned from Viet Nam. I'm not saying these will work, but I'm not as negative as some of you. There is evidence that non violent, repetitive protests can and often do influence policy. I hope they keep on going. Even a few Republicans in Congress are starting to grow some balls and criticize the felon or at least gently disagree with him. Let's hope they grow some more.

And btw, we don't have to convince Trump. That was never my claim. We have to convince Congress to do their fucking job. If they think they might lose the next election, they might just wise up.

A group who took part in the major "Hands Off!" protests against President Donald Trump have organized another day of action.

The 50501 group is promoting nationwide protests in all 50 U.S. states on the same day against the Trump administration on April 19.

Newsweek has contacted 50501 for comment via email.

Why It Matters

The April 5 "Hands Off!" protests marked the largest day of public demonstration against Trump during his second term. Thousands protested in cities across the U.S. and internationally. The group hopes that the upcoming demonstration sees a similar turnout.

Hope even more people turn out on the 19th. More and more people are really pissed off at Congress for not doing their job and of course at Trump for destroying the country.

We just had lunch with a friend who attended the local protest. I was shocked that we even had one in my rather conservative little town. My friend was very excited about the protests, but she is a few years older than we are so she was also part of the anti Viet Nam War protests. She and the owner of the restaurant where we had lunch both attended the protest. The owner is a citizen who is originally from Lebanon. They are looking forward to the next protest. Exciting to see so much backlash. I've never seen anything like this since the 60s.

THat is becasue those war protesters in the 60's are Social Security recipients today. And they way pensions have been almost abolished, for many of them it is their primary source of retirement income.

That sounds like malicious compliance to me. Presumably you would have preferred them to raise the dying age to 21?

;)

Crap.

The video addresses the age issue during the Vietnam era. Worth a short watch.

I watched it and it brought back some very sad memories. I had a horrible, mean, algebra teacher in high school who used to say, "Viet Nam were we come" whenever he over heard any of the boys getting excited about graduating from high school.

My ex got drafted but he was lucky, as they kept him in San Antonio during his two years, but my next door's neighbor's husband was sent to Nam.

My late father was in WWII. He joined the Marines at age 17 and suffered from severe PTSD for most of his adult life, eventually being approved for disability. War is hell.

People used to say that we spit on soldiers who returned from Nam, but I've always thought that was a lie or grossly exaggerated, since a good number of the protesters who marched with us, were young men who had just come back from the war. Okay. I'm off topic.

I've never seen anything like this since the 60s.

According to my friend, there were quite a few young people protesting with the older ones. She said there were about 150 marching in our little city. I doubt many people realized there was a protest in my small city or there might have been more, as all of my friends regardless of age are very opposed to what the Republicans are doing to the country. I just told one of my younger neighbors about the protests. She had no idea we had one here. Of course, it's easier for retired people to protest since we don't have to work, and some people do work on the weekends.

The draft ended in 1975 when I turned 18. While they brought registering back, I'm in the group that never had to register for the draft ...people born in 1957 thru 1961 I think. The military had become all volunteer when I graduated from high school and a buddy of mine joined the Navy who, at that time, promised you could go thru basic training with a friend. I was still 17 but took the tests. The recruiter REALLY wanted me to enlist...the morning of my 18th birthday the phone rang and it was him. I said I didn't think so...the scenes of what happened still in my head. In retrospect I should have, but those were some scary times for young men.

Being born in 59 I never had to register too.

Both my older brothers joined the navy to avoid getting into the shit. One stupidly signed for corpsman duty and ended up in the shit anyway. Took a bullet in his thigh for his trouble.
