maybe if the GOP made good policy, they wouldn't be as beholden.
I know, it's a silly fantasy.
Yes, yes it is. If the GOP made good policy this forum wouldn't exist. So I guess GOP policy is good for that...

Public approval of the Senate bill is terribly low. McConnell must be thinking a couple things:
1) Why the fuck do people keep electing us if they don't support this bill!?
2) Goodbye tax reform
People who hadn't painted themselves into a corner would look at this and understand that it's an opportunity to fix what's wrong with Obamacare, rename it, and then take credit for the whole thing, resulting in easy wins in 2018.
I still struggle to understand who these repubs think they represent. The people of Kentucky sent McConnell to DC to undo the Affordable Care Act, when they have had one of the best experiences with it. The GOP is determined to the do the reverse Robin Hood, take from the poor and give it to the wealthy. It's like a weird game of the Life board game. In order to win you must have all the money from everyone, no one else gets any. How do they think this makes any economic sense? The ruling class will become the fabulously wealthy.
The latest seems to be for the GOP to get the votes to eliminate Obama care. No replacement for now. 32 million would lose coverage and insurance costs would go up 20% for everybody that still has insurance. Such a deal!
The GOP has screwed themselves by attacking ACA for years now and making big promises to repeal ACA. They have no replacement because they never bothered to seriously create a decent alternative. So if they fail to repeal, they piss off their tea party crazies. If they don't have a decent replacement they piss off everybody else. If they manage to squeak out a last moment repeal, they will cause such a reaction, the GOP might be cast off into the political darkness for years. But everybody else will be hurt in the process.
The full incompetence and crazy of the GOP is finally reaching it's apex. It is spiralling out of control. This time, there is no Obama to save them with a veto should they pass something this stupid.
How this will all finally work out is unknowable at this point, but it isn't going to be pretty. The GOP is full of crazies and there is no hope they will collectively say "Time to stop playing games and do the right thing".
Next, tax reform. A program based on ALEC - Laffernomics and bound to cause Brownbacking of the economy but they have no other program.
