This is the natural result of identity politics pumping up simple tribalism. Those people that got run over by the truck driver were "them" to his "us", just like muslims and refugees in general are "them" to many Americans' "us". And round and round it goes. The facts that the people in that got run over probably had nothing to do with the driver's grievance, and that that there are many perfectly innocent and peaceful refugees and muslims get swept aside so long as people insist on speaking with identity politics.

Even many of those who are technically "peaceful" want to impose Islamism by demographic and political means rather than terrorism. A death of a thousand cuts in other words.

I am all for helping refugees. That does not mean that all of them should be resettled into the West, even if they don't accept Western culture. That doesn't mean that all Muslims should be treated as "refugees" no matter where they come from and why they seek to come in. And it sure as hell should not mean that claimed "refugee" status should give one immunity from deportation even if they commit crimes.

I am not saying all Muslims or all refugees are bad. But why should it be controversial that those who seek to immigrate into Europe should be vetted for, among other things, compatibility with European culture?

The mass migration of Muslims is an existential threat to Europe. If Europe does not see that and acts accordingly, it will not exist as a cultural entity much longer. The ambitions of Islamism are global - they want to make the entire world Islamic and Europe is their current target.

On the one hand, all but a small fraction of the refugees are against what this murderer did and would not do something similar.
Thus, blaming refugees in general for this is moronic.

OTOH, his status as a refugee was likely a major contributor to his actions. He was raised in a culture that viewed those he murdered as enemies deserving God's wrath. As a refugee, he had no connection to the community, no basis for empathizing with those in it beyond that they are human, which does not warrant empathy within Abrahamic religion. Unlike other types of immigrants who go to a place they respect and want to be a part of, most of the refugees do not feel that way about their host communities and are just seeking temporary respite from the imminent danger in their homelands because their preferred brand of death-cult is not currently in charge.

While a German native raised in Berlin could also have done this, they would need to be far more clinically insane to do so than would an Islamic refugee for the same reason that a Vietnam soldier who killed innocent people in Vietnam need not be insane the way they would need to be if they returned home and did the same thing in their hometown.

In sum, refugees in general are not to blame for what this refugee did, yet his being an Islamic refugee in secular western city was not a coincidence and was likely a causal factor making such an assault on those people more likely. This nuance is lost on the ideologues drowning out reason from all directions.

German police are investigating a "probable terrorist attack" after a man ploughed a lorry into a Christmas market in the heart of Berlin, killing 12 people and injuring 48.
The driver is an Afghan or Pakistani asylum seeker, according to security sources cited by DPA news agency.
He reportedly arrived in Germany in February as a refugee.
The daily Tagesspiegel said the man was known to the police for minor crimes, but not terror links.

Why wasn't he deported because of his criminal activity?
