Religious Teachings

Instrumentum Regni [Latin] - Instrument of Government

Much that was called religion has carried an unconscious attitude of hostility toward life. True religion must teach that life is filled with joys pleasing to the eye of God, that knowledge without action is empty. All men must see that the teaching of religion by rules and rote is largely a hoax. The proper teaching is recognized with ease. You can know it without fail because it awakens within you that sensation which tells you this is something you’ve always known. - Frank Herbert, Dune

One should be cautious with organized religion, as mass acceptance often leads to the corruption of original teachings. Here's how this dynamic typically unfolds: A belief, philosophy, or subjective truth reliant on faith is introduced and then propagated among the masses. When widely accepted, these beliefs become potent tools for social and political control. In this process, the original teachings are often transformed—sometimes for the purpose of political manipulation—through a gradual, insidious influence of culture, society, and tradition, which then becomes the prevailing paradigm.

Historical examples include Emperor Constantine the Great's politicization of Christianity and the establishment of the Nicene Creed, which centralized Christian doctrine under imperial influence. Similarly, Emperor Wu of Han's endorsement of Confucianism and his interest in Taoism helped shape these philosophies into tools for governance. In Japan, Shinto was formalized as a distinct religion to differentiate it from the newly introduced Buddhism from India, leading to its integration into the mythological education of Japanese youth through texts like the Nihongi and Kojiki, under the guidance of the royal family.

A major example is the state of Israel over 2000 years ago, a political-religious state based on the OT.

Another one who lost the ability to tell the difference between science fiction and reality.

You can't logically sustain that the ancient people of Israel formed a fantasy in which to control the people and then the fantasy failed without conceding that that is reality. It doesn't matter if it's Shinto, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Democracy, etc.

Ah, never known anyone to use that option.

This is in response to post #4...

The ancient Jews weer a theocracy, religion was the state. Not unlike Iran today. Religious law ruled.

Leviticus handed out harsh punishments.

There are 613 commandments in the OT, some of them quite bizarre. All the 'true word of god'. From what I read the post fall diaspora Jews purged the more bizarre rules and punishments.

The ancient Jews were more like conservative Mid East Muslims today.

Conservative Jews in NYC who have a dispute with each other can legally submit to binding arbitration by a Jewish egregious court instead of civil courts.

That's a sort of unsophisticated interpretation. Almost temporal. The Law of Moses was a tutor to the promised messiah. Much of it was an arbitrary set of rules no one could follow. It instructed them regarding their sin and the need of a messiah. Immediately after Adam's sin, Jehovah set in motion a plan where:

1. He selected a group of people.
2. Formed a nation for those people.
3. Demonstrated what was happening by establishing a law they could not keep due to their imperfection or immaturity.
4. Provided a way out through a Messiah or Christ, namely Michael, who volunteered out of love for mankind and His father's purpose. Michael came to earth as Jesus the Christ.

From Jehovah's perspective, the life He created is sacred, belonging to Him. According to the Bible, our soul is our life, represented by our blood, hence blood is sacred. To kill someone, or take their soul, requires the payment of the killer's own soul because it is taking something sacred to Jehovah. The blood sacrifices were symbolic of respect for or acknowledgment of this sacred life. For example, if a person was found murdered and the killer was unknown, they had to sacrifice a bull, spilling its blood on the ground as a symbolic acknowledgment of God's possession of sacred life, a gesture of justice (Deuteronomy 21:1-9).

Since we inherited sin through Adam, only the blood of a sinless man could pay the price for Adam's sin, which had been perfect until he sinned.

In this process, the original teachings are often transformed—
That is what I am saying
Ancient people living under Kings, Dictators envisioned an afterworld that was similar to the life they had back then
A King, Dictator like Putin "God" sits on his THRONE, Heaven is his KINGDOM & only those who profess to blindly
believe, support, submit, obey & sing his praises are allowed in, the rest kept out to suffer!
Hence all the - "Get down on our knees, beg, grovel, obey & sing his praises. Pleased, he will reward us!"
.
But that was life back then & so these simple, innocent people created Gods & Religions that fit THEIR way of
life back then
What is shocking is to understand that today's far more educated, intelligent, armed with far more knowledge,
blindly follow THEIR views of God!
.
Over time the religious heads expanded the promises - Eternal "Life"!!! woo, woo!
it helps if no one asks what exactly are we doing with all this time? Do we have jobs? How much do they pay?
Are we stuck working for eternity? Eternity is a very looong time! ok, that was a joke!
.
Here in this world if we borrow money we are expected to pay it back, with interest! Keep our promises
If we made a mistake like breaking something valuable/not so valuable at a friend's or others house
We are expected to replace it
If we drove drunk one night and caused some material damage, sure, in the light of the day, we are
REPENTANT, cry before the Judge but that won't be enough. He might still punish us
Apologies are to be directed towards the VICTIM,
And this is the most important part, the victim has to be compensated for their loss
Unless and until we do that the Judge won't let us go
.
But that's a problem for these religions promising the endless good life
And so here comes a nice forgiving God! He will nicely hear our tale of woe and nicely forgive us!
Jesus paid our debts! How wonderful!
Wonder why he won't do that while we are alive?
Off we go to Heaven! yay!
The Judge and the criminal get together and decide the creditor need not be repaid his loan
The judge and the criminal get together and decide the victim need not be compensated
"God" will help the criminal cheat his creditors, victims!
.
What is frightening is the silence!
The silence from the followers - well, willing Nazis silent over these promises? Not surprising
But the silence of Atheists, the educated, the intellectuals, judges, lawyers, people with common sense?
That is hard to digest
compensated for

For example, if a person was found murdered and the killer was unknown, they had to sacrifice a bull, spilling its blood on the ground as a symbolic acknowledgment of God's possession of sacred life, a gesture of justice (Deuteronomy 21:1-9).
Poor Bull - it had nothing to do with what happened & yet it pays the ultimate price
A murder was committed, an innocent soul lost, so now let's murder another innocent - nice!
Since we inherited sin through Adam, only the blood of a sinless man could pay the price for Adam's sin, which had been perfect until he sinned.
Don't get this obsession with sin - we are human beings, we are not perfect, we can strive to be better people, but to be perfect our humanity will be lost
And what is perfection anyway? We all know that with all the earthquakes, diseases, natural disasters wiping out innocents, can we say God is perfect, sinless? The only way is a slave view - Master is perfect. If Master is not, see Rule 1
Religious people say we leave this world and enter a perfect world
All I am seeing are people running away from REAL LIFE and shamelessly sitting idle, sponging off God!
That is what prostitutes, gigolos, yes-men, sycophants, cronies do down here sponging off their rich Sugar Daddies!
Such people are perfect?
.
There are two ways to be "perfect"
A pitcher throws a perfect game - a no-hitter - such a perfection is EARNED!
The other one is the lazy perfection
I have no problem saying I have never lost a boxing match in my entire life!
In fact, I have a better record than Mike Tyson in terms of losses!
In fact, I bet most of you readers have a better record than Mike Tyson!
.
When I think of Heaven that is the perfection I see - the latter one
People sitting idle, doing nothing, an useless, pointless existence for eternity!
If you never do anything, obviously you are perfect, you have never failed!
It is the person who attempts something that fails, who is not perfect

Since we inherited sin through Adam, only the blood of a sinless man could pay the price for Adam's sin, which had been perfect until he sinned.
Meaningless fan fiction. There is no "original sin" in the Tanakh.
