These hearings have been a farce, but I don't think anyone explained why it's a farce quite as well as Ted Lieu did.

To summarize:

  • Google is a private company. Even if they were being biased as you say, their biased speech is protected by the First Amendment.
  • They are not being biased, they're just reflecting reality.
  • If you don't want negative articles about you in the press (and thus on Google searches), then do positive things and don't do negative things.

At 1:41 an interesting thing happens over the Google CEO's left shoulder.

Sundar has a net worth of $1.2 billion.

Yes, obviously republicans doing shitty things will result in shitty reporting. I'm also sick of conservatives claiming some sort of bias against them due to news agencies continually pointing out the continual existence of concentration camps for Mexican children.

However, search results being at the top of a Google search doesn't meant they're accurate, only that they're popular. Though he made a good point, it also missed an opportunity on fake news and the fight against it etc.

If I googled Clinton 2 years ago I would have got all sorts of bollocks as a search result.

What's best about this is that it creates even more of a pairing between searching for "idiot" and pictures of Trump.

They also go against their own rhetoric about personal responsibility, about accepting responsibility for the consequences of their actions rather than calling oneself a victim.

Well, hypocrisy is one of the cornerstones of the GOP platform.

I found the highlights of the hearing rather entertaining, in a train wreck sorta way.

What's the fucking go with the monopoly guy in the crowd? I didn't realize US senate hearings could be so entertaining.
