Resisting Trump's Illegal Takeover

Not sure if protests would do much,
recall that Trump in his first term wanted to shoot protestors in the legs. He was stopped by someone who wasn’t a drunk, adulterous, tv show host.
There were lots of protests last weekend all over the country and I don't think anyone was shot in the legs. Still, I doubt they did much good.
Only physical threat to GQP congresscritters is likely to cause them to take any notice whatsoever. And at that, it would probably only cause them to authorize shooting protestors.

Protests don't do much if they can be ignored. Just like at the beginning of the Iraq war there were huge protests in a lot of places, which were mostly ignored by the media.

Nothing. Legal or otherwise.
Appears as such, other than at least trying in the courts.

The failure some are having here is to recognize that the GOP is about 99.7% complicit, so this isn't one guy, it is Trump with the entire GOP machine behind him. Trump had them flee the US Capitol building on January 6th, 2021, over obviously false accusations of voter fraud. They didn't care, to them, that was "business".

The main error is that it is the GOP and not Trump who is winning here. Trump is the useful idiot who is looking to dismantle the Executive Branch as desired by the GOP igoing as far back as the 1980s. Trump isn't killing USAid, the GOP and the Heritage Foundation is, they are just letting Trump take the fall for anything that fails.

Add SCOTUS's Loper-Bright findings, and we are along for a ride for a bit. All because Obama and the Democrats passed the ACA, a generally popular, now, piece of legislation.
Exactly. America could cope with a bad apple in the White House. But this is all the guys with the guns deciding they're going to take over. The only way this can be resolved without major problems is if law enforcement or the military puts a stop to it--but neither shows any signs of doing so. History shows that an insurgent force fighting a leader who still has a fair amount of support is a horribly bloody affair that basically ensures putting someone pretty bad in power. As horrible as he is armed resistance would be jumping from the frying pan to the fire.

So what? He's simply ignoring the courts.
He's "owning the libs". And this means so much more to them than the constitution that they claim they love. And they will let him get away with anything so long as he keeps his paws off the last 14 words of the second amendment.

The bottom line is that it might be too late. The only thing we can do is to oust the GOP congressman who have lacked the backbone to support the constitution. I am fairly convinced that we won't have another presidential election in 2026, but I am beginning to wonder if we will even have mid terms in 2026.

We were never going to have a presidential election in 2026.....
See? 😜
There will most likely be a sham election in 2026, and the result will be a 20+ seat majority in the House and a 65-35 majority in the Senate for the fascists. That will make it a slam dunk to coronate the apricot, and “save billions” by not holding an election in 2028.

Not a word.

At a coronation, the guest of honour is "crowned".
WELL SHIT, WE DON'T WANT TO DO THAT!!

"Coronated" means to officially give a crown to a monarch during a ceremony. It can also refer to the ceremony itself. - Google AI
"Coronate" also refers to a plant toxin produced by the bacterium Pseudomonas syringae, so it is def a word.
Maybe we could get the 'pugs to do that to their orange jesus?

I think the argument for "do nothing" may be the best strategy . Let Trump destroy everything and may people with one brain cell will start to understand why things were done the way they were before Trump and why things have to ve a certain way so you dont meas things up.

And how will that renewed understanding help them to live in a newly formed dictatorship?

Public opinion isn't a very powerful force. Americans seem prone to forget this. After all, in a constitutional representative democracy, it is quite powerful; But that's an historically rare environment. In the kinds of totalitarian societies that have dominated all of history, the understanding of the people, of just how miserable life is, does them no good at all.

If the dust settles on a Trump run autocracy, the people who understand just what they have lost will be in the most unenviable position. But they will (by definition) be unable to do anything about it.

Only if democracy survives will the will of the people be of any importance whatsoever.

I love this one, from one of our military personnel:

"You might have heard that all federal government employees were ordered to send a list to "HR" of 5 things we accomplished last week, or else get fired. Lots of controversy. Maybe you wonder why its a big deal. Here's my take on it:

1) There is no such thing as "HR". This order came from a private citizen named Elon Musk. He said on X he was going to send it, and, boom, it appeared in our inboxes. But guess what? I don't work for Elon Musk, and neither does anyone else in the federal government. If some South African billionaire wants to dictate human resource policies for the American government, then he should get elected or get appointed and confirmed. Until then, he can kick rocks.

2) In my organization, there is already a process in place to evaluate what I accomplish. I evaluate my employees, my supervisor evaluates me, and so on it goes, up the chain of command. It's the same way across the federal government. So, what possible value could there be in 3 million government employees sending in random bullet points about their accomplishments to an unknown entity that has no idea what tasks or objectives the employees have been assigned, or what their job descriptions look like? Answer: It serves no purpose. Unless, of course, the real purpose is to intimidate, frighten, and demoralize people.

3) Lastly and most importantly - who the f*** do these clowns think they are? The tone of the message is so disrespectful and belittling. Obviously, they think we don't do jack squat, and we're going to melt into jelly at the thought of having to justify our paychecks. Well, you know what? I'm proud of what I've done over the course of 20 years in public service (which includes time as a Peace Corps Volunteer, a US Army Paratrooper with three combat tours, and a Foreign Service Officer).

I won't give Elon the satisfaction of responding to his message, but if you're curious, here's the kind of stuff a "deep state" bureaucrat like me in the State Department does on a daily basis:
- Provide emergency aid and comfort to American citizens victimized by terrorists.
- Help American citizens getting evacuated from countries that are descending into civil war.
- Assist American children stranded abroad get back home to their families.
- Collect up the belongings of Americans who died abroad and deliver the terrible news to their families in the most humane and decent way possible.
- Design programs to build trust between poor communities at risk for extremism and local security services, in order to prevent ISIS-affiliated groups from gaining a foothold.
- Start entrepreneurship programs so that people in developing countries have more opportunities and don't need to depend on aid or try to immigrate to the US to get a job.
- Help poor kids get scholarships to study in the United States, so that they can come back to their home countries to start businesses, bring development, and make reforms so that those countries can stop relying on assistance from the U.S.

All the above is drawn from my own personal experience - and I'm nothing special. I am surrounded everyday by more impressive colleagues with more noteworthy achievements. And all of them got into this line of work because they are patriotic citizens who believe in America as a force for good in the world and who want to make our country safer, stronger and more prosperous.
And for some reason today that marks us as lazy shitbags at best, or corrupt criminals at worst.

We're in weird times right now folks. It's perfectly normal to want the federal government to be more effective, more responsive, and less wasteful. But we can get there without dragging loyal public servants through the dirt. They deserve better.
And we should demand better of the people in charge right now."
people with one brain cell will start to understand why things were done the way they were before Trump
People don’t have memories. They already forgot 1/6/21. How can we expect them to remember 2015, let alone 1938?

General strike is being called for this coming Friday. Purchase nothing, especially from Amazon. Take the day off if you can without getting into too much trouble. More strike dates coming.
This post is probably better here.

FTFY.

Timidity and obedience are not the way to win any kind of collective action campaign.

Getting in to trouble is the very least you can do. It's better than getting beaten, jailed, or killed.

Single days are lame. Shop before, take the day, shop after. Shutdowns require more.
