This is a "problem" mainly in STEM where people are no that crazy about these issues, they understand that women are simply not interested in STEM.Isn't it a liberal bragging point and a conservative irritation point that colleges lean overwhelmingly in a liberal direction, most professors being liberal, progressive, or far left?
So we can therefore conclude that progressives need to be mentored to not be racist and sexist?
Having worked in STEM for decades, no, the basic view of most women I've discussed is that they got kinda tired of dirty old men leering at them and hitting on them, having their ideas ignored repeatedly, and things of that nature.
(and as a black guy in the same profession, the whole "Oh my god please don't turn into an enraged killer thug supernegro I beg of you" thing gets old very quickly - as do the obviously racist jokes that could come from a Fleisher-era cartoon or Amos & Andy, the open disdain for my intelligence, and so forth). Some of it is subtle and likely subconscious, but other stuff, and some of it, as I said, is overt. Also, stop touching people's hair.
And the homophobic/transphobic stuff I've heard...I mean, damn, I've said some ignorant things in the past, but dudes openly saying, in the office, that they "should go back in the closet" is...even teenage me knew that was fucked up..
As for why it doesn't go the other way - I'd tell you examples of women that were aggressively sexist, of black folks likening random white people to KKK members, or of LGBT people who openly said that cis het folks should be ashamed...but I really can't think of any outside of Twitter jokes and the like - and we've seen how well those go over already.
