Right-Wing Blizzard after NBC comment on Oprah

I'll take that bet. I wager that if she runs in the election proper she doesn't receive more than 40% of the vote.
Disagree. I think enough older white women would consider Oprah white enough to vote for her.

What a nasty, bigoted thing to say.
Welcome to the world of white people, though I think you misunderstood what I meant. White people (well most people) fear what they don't understand. Remember that Beyonce song that white people thought was about white people (and the black panthers) but was a message to blacks (saying she hasn't sold out)? White people are stupid too.

But Oprah, she has been on television for years. She is a person lots of white women are familiar with and like. This includes lots of older white women. Women that wouldn't otherwise vote for someone who is black.

I'll just drop off my Facebook post on the topic, because it's another idea that's so damn stupid it could just happen in this country.

Fuck it. Oprah now? I say let's just make it a damn survivor type game, and the last person on the island or what the fuck ever gets to be president. Look guys, I know next to Trump, Oprah looks just incredible. Trust me, it's an incredibly bad idea. Only in the US would we take a has been, intellectually defunct old bigoted asshole and replace with with a LITERAL talk show host. People always comment that they don't like their politicians actually being politicians. Why? Do you want a race car driver to transplant your liver? Maybe your exterminator could be your lawyer? Sound like a bad idea? IT IS. We don't need less knowledge and experience running the country guys. WE NEED MORE. Another damn superstar is not the answer. Twats.

fixed that for you.

And remarkably, it will be an entirely different 40% than the ones who did it last time.

I'll take that bet if she's the only celebrity running. I say she'll get more than 40%. I say she'll get over 45% easily. She may even win in an landslide. She has the name recognition and celebrity, and that's all that matters now as Trump showed.

It didn't begin with Trump. Off the top of my head I'm thinking Reagan, Shartzeneggar, Clint Eastwood, Sonny Bono...people don't give a fvck about experience, they want a familiar face.

With Oprah, people will think, "Well, she handled that mean ol' husband who wouldn't let her read her sisters letters..."

You think I'm kidding.

Nope. I wish you were kidding. I think you've hit the nail square on the head.

Yes, Trump can not be the measuring stick for what is and isn't acceptable as a candidate.

Of course, some African Americans might say, 'Well you got to have your apathetic, incompetent, business failure white guy be President, why can't our empathetic, competent, very successful business black woman have a try.' I wouldn't have a good answer as to why not under those parameters. All the talk about how white people are losing America, yet it was a white temper tantrum that got Trump elected in the first place.

Oprah is the one responsible for giving that crook Dr. Phil and quack Dr. Oz to the world. Not to mention promoting the nonsense behind that stupid shit The Secret. And this is the person we want as the leader of the free world? No thank you.

Not only that, but her Oprah's Book Club picks suck the cosmic twat. Really dumbass soap opera plots, or she picks the most obvious high school titles (Tale of Two Cities, maybe CD's least humorous, most melodramatic yarn.)

Oprah has already said she has no interest in running. But it brings up a good point.

People are too enamored with personal characteristics of the candidates instead of looking at them as if they were applying for a job. Al Gore lacks charisma, Howard Dean screamed into a microphone, Hillary is too shrill. It's all bullshit and a stupid means of choosing a person to run an administration.

And Trump is the greatest example of this.

Yes. One person can be good at campaigning and another is good at leading.

We know who has better odds.

I don't think you're kidding, I think you're just dead wrong.

Celebrities running for relatively minor positions in government that don't have a perpetual national spotlight aren't the same as running to lead 300+ million people and serving as our face to the world. I truly believe that once Trump is out and after people come to realize that their lives are tangibly worse off for his being they'll get over this entire idea and we'll see a (perhaps unfortunate) swing to establishmentarianism and renewed interest in qualifications and credentials over empty showmanship. I truly believe that Trump is lightning in a bottle and that his success/failure will not be replicated anytime soon.

That's my prediction.

You may be right, but I don't agree. It's possible Im underestimating the general population, but I think a known face is favored, especially if there is any kind of
brand/image (whether intentional/real or not) attached to them.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
... :D

I'm an older white woman and I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

Why? I mean, real policy issues that you think Oprah would be good for the whole of the US?

Well, what about when she solves the North Korea problem by getting Kim to open up about how all his nuclear warfare talk is just him compensating for his father never hugging him?

So she's not qualified because her taste in books differ than yours. Got it.
