Rise of White Supremacists stems from Trump or from Identity Politics?

So how do we go about reigning identity politics in a little?

It has clearly gotten out of control and is causing problems.

If you don't fit what your racial or other prescribed identity is supposed to be, you get attacked, and that is really the definition of prejudice, but its now often pushed as the opposite.

If you want to fight it, get to know the arguments of Ramzpaul and people like him and rebut them.

Read his twitter feed and you will get the method he uses.

This is moreso about people reacting to white privilege conferences and quotas in a time of left behind whites (with drugs, gambling, god and guns and so on) having to compete with lots of fresh blood immigrants.

In the same way a lot of these white deride blacks complaining they also bellyache.

But honestly, why would an employer want to deal with a dysfunctional american (due to generational family issues) when a fresh immigrant can do the job? Also the construction industry loves its and credit companies get new clients.

Too bad Barbara Jordan is gone. A true american hero.

If you cannot see yourself as another person, and by such act outgrow your narrow mindedness, I suppose humanity will simply have to suffer the consequences.

No, this is not it. If anything, groups like BLM started as a reaction to white supremacists. Violent police in black communities, knuckleheads like George Zimmerman running around and shooting black people, etc.

Why is my post replying to this pro-#BLM post by Mumbles getting censored? Are only pro-#BLM posts allowed in PD any more, and anything critical of #BLM is now considered a "derail"?

This is BS Mumbles. Defend your opinions, do not censor people who disagree with you.

The origin of this shit predates "identity politics" by so long, to even suggest. The KKK has been around a long time. And the election of Trump has helped in the effort to normalize their attitudes on race and the identity of America.

What it means to be alt-right

It would appear from the contents of this manifesto that the Alt-Right has gone full National Socialist, which means that the Alt-Right is finished as potential prototype for a serious opposition movement from the Right in the United States. … Regrettably, neither the Left nor the Right has developed anything remotely approacing (sic) a comprehensive analysis of the police state and its workings in contemporary society. The Left simply advances a limited critique of the police as 'too racist' …. Meanwhile, the only objection to the police state advanced by the Right appears to be regret that all law enforcement personnel are not more like Bull Connor, or that they are working for a government that is not sufficiently fascist.

As was written above, the KKK and other white pride things are identity politics, as are the black Panthers etc. King and others made great headway in cutting through all that and putting focus not on colour not skin but on content of character. Today we are backsliding, and we actually see purported "liberals" pushing identity politics. This backsliding is why we refer to such people as regressives.

What gave a boost to ignorant white hatred was a black president for eight years.
Both sides could see it about this way.

I do think the most vocal of these so-called white supremacist groups vote Republican, so just a Democrat in charge is not going to help either.

Equal and opposite reactions. For decades, leftists have been tearing down whites for the purpose of building up "minorities" that actually make up a majority the of the American population.

What does it say about the "black community" when the only way to build it up is to scream "WHITE PRIVILEGED!!!" at whites who are doing nothing more than living their lives, taking care of themselves and their families?

The identity politics of the Left has always been and will always be the root cause of racial strife and division in the United States.

Yes, all was indeed nirvanah when white males only ruled and black people stayed in their places down on the plantation.

Hundreds of armed white people marching (without a permit, BTW) carrying semi-automatic weapons and torches, and not being bothered by the police is the height of white privilege.
I guess it would be if say, at least the majority of whites were truly supportive of such a blatant spectacle.

"I am proud to be black " said the black man.
"I am proud to be Asian" said the Chinese women.
"I am proud to be white" said the racist.

If the only people saying they are proud to be white is skinheads, then I guess this is true.
Yet there is no real reason to be proud of what race you merely happen to be from, but you certainly should not be ashamed of it either.

Can we all agree that each of the above (Trump, minority identity politics, muslim issue and refugee culture clash) have contributed to this? ?
No.

I know divorcing this current state of affairs from history would make you happy.

But no.

Athena, you are only making my point for me, and those photos could be not just the past but also the future if identity politics keeps getting pushed.

Identity politics isn't something just white people do, and it isn't something just black people do. And insisting on seeing them as first and foremost being white and black people is identity politics itself.

The retort of essentially "no! It isn't us, it's the white people that are the problem here!" is also identity politics. Because yes, it is some white people, but it is also many of us.

We need to be addressing ideas and not assigned identities, racial otherwise.

Even racism itself can be taken on in that light. The identity of the target doesn't make it less or more wrong. Somebody treating you poorly because you have more melanin in your skin is not meaningfully different than them treating me poorly because of eye creases and an epicanthic fold. The core of it is the mistreatment of us because we are different, and everybody should be able to empathize with that no matter who they are, white people included.

"Identity politics" is a bullshit right-wing claim to begin with. It is like the "War on Christmas".

Oh? Then explain this to us. Why did your last election feature reporters never shutting up about the "black vote" and the "latino vote" and the "woman vote"? Why were actual issues and ideas so rarely discussed. Bernie was the only one who had a clear policy message he constantly pushed, and even he fell into the race based platitudes and call outs. Sorry, but identity politics is definitely a thing and not a mere talking point.
